No one here is saying that you cant use MapSource to transfer the map to your device.

What we are saying is that if you do not intend to use the full functions of MapSource, avoid the complication by using a much simpler method i.e. the Installer. If all you want to do is transfer the map to your device, Bro Antyong has created the installer to help do this. Many newbies get into complications when installing or using MapSource.

Yes. Generate your map on your PC and you can either use the installer to put the map directly into your device or you can very simply copy and paste the map directly into your .../Garmin/... folder in your device. No need to use MapSource at all.

There should be only one gmapsupp.img file in the device's garmin folder. For detailed information on what other possible .img files in the garmin folder please read here viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2157&hilit=files

For GMXT, to check whether you have the latest map, go to Tools, Manage My Data, Map Sets, select detailed maps.

Since your statement seems to represent my thinking, I am unable to comprehend your difference.

It is not difficult to comprehend, actually. You can use MapSource not only for editing tracks and POIs (for those who are already into these), BUT for anybody else, it is a good planning tool. Just use the installed map, as is, and use the 'Route Tool' to plan your routes. :)

Yes Bro Zamad is not differing your statement. He is adding some Pro into it.
I do agreed on Bro Zamad, As I am inti mapping, I need Mapsource and every new update map into it.
As for my GPS, I am still using old Map, only update once a month into my GPS.

Thank you. For a moment there I thot there was something amiss somewhere.

Maybe for the sake of clarity, what I mean was if newbies do not need to use MapSource if all they do is use it to transfer the map into their device.

If like you and Bro Zamad they intend to use its other functionalities, by all means use MapSource.

Does any bro here faces the problem of GPS hanging after the installation of the latest copy of the downloaded map? I tried soft reset few times but hang at the loading page - Green bar loading at at 3/4 zone. I am using Nuvi 205

Can advise on how to resolve this. Thanks in advance. :tq:
