sorry cannot attend it cause i'm from Johor, btw do u know why my garmin nuvi 255w is not able to connect to computer? sometimes it can and mostly cannot. its only working like while charging the unit although using usb cable from computer. i guess virus already infected the garmin nuvi. how do i format n restore to original condition? please help. again thanx

Thinks you can do to debug your problem:

Try to connect direct from Nuvi to USB port of lappy / PC and not through an external hub.
Always use the " Safely Remove Device" feature of windows before unplugging an external USB hardware
Check or change USB cable.
Reload windows driver for your device ( delete existing one and let windows auto detect and load fresh driver )

Try different PC/Lappy to see if problem is your Nuvi-Cable or original PC/Lappy problem

Could be either your Nuvi USB port "rosak" or firmware corrupted.

The nuvi port is loose after pulling in and out of the USB port. Oxidation could be another problem. Clean with alcohol and adjust the size of the nuvi port might helps.

I tried the nuvi 1100 with some pushing and movement, the computer is able to read the SD.

Check it out.

POI installed but nothing on the GPS

i think the firmware corrupted.... so how do i overcome this? now another nuvi1100 also facing the same problem., i'm reading sometging about pre-boot, firmware, etc but not really understand.

Both Nuvi's USB port failing ? You must have real bad luck or something else is the problem that caused both to fail at same time. Firmware corruption is rare and does not easily happens as it is in ROM which is not accessible to user. Suggest you relook what happen recently to come up with this problem. There must be something common done for both to fail at same time.

I have a Nuvi and an eTrex, both coming to 3 years old. Both have their USB port heavily used due to map upgrades / tracks collection etc.... and both USB ports still working fine

There are 3 elements you are dealing with.

1 GPS unit
2 cable
3 PC

You need to isolate. So far you tried 2 GPS. The probability of 2 failing is low. But best to confirm the GPS on another computer that is already working with other GPS units.

Once you establish a working system, the guess work is easily isolated. It is known that USB cables will work on some and fail on others.

Do your GPS show any sign of life when the cable is first plug into a powered up PC? IF not it is very likely the cable. This will happen even with the GPS not turn on when you plug in.

Hello! I need some help here pls?

I just downloaded this map and followed the steps to put into my SD Card but however my GPS can't locate the map at all when I on it.

I used the own mapgenerator and merely rename the gmapsupp.img to another since I have an existing map in my original GPS(SD CARD) which also has gmapsupp.img originally inside it already.

Must I overwrite the existing gmapsupp.img then it will be able to work?

My device: Nuvi 3760T Garmin

Thank you!

just overwrite it. or.. if u want to keep the old file, rename it to another name instead, & copy the new gmapsupp.img to that folder
