Hi,

I traveled to Kong Kong last week using the Senai Desaru expressway. The highway ends at Cahaya Baru. The shops at the rest stop are not open.

I inquired and got a reply on 19 April 2011:

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your question. For your information sir, we are still waiting
for the approval of Package-3 opening (Cahaya Baru - Desaru) from Malaysian
Highway Authority. Until then, we can't give the exact date when Package-3
is usable to the public. Thank you.

The highway operator are waiting for the authority's approval to open up the section of the highway from Cahaya Baru to Penawar intersection. Of course, subject to highway operator's fulfillment of the authority's "must-meet" requirement. Constructions are already completed.

The opening of the E22 will be separated into two (2) phases. Phase 1 already opened effective from 10th September 2009. The length of Phase 1 of the E22 is approximately 50km, stretching from Senai to Cahaya Baru with a connection to Pasir Gudang. It should open this Friday (tomorrow) and free usage for a month. I heard from news at Sinar.fm last 2,3 days if not mistaken :D
