Cameron Highlands - The Lakehouse (9 Dec)

Postby tkew » Wed Dec 02, 2009 11:20 am

Hi everyone,

I am going for family vacation at Cameron Highlands on 9 Dec, and will be staying at the Lakehouse. I will be there for 4 days.

Anyone with any good recommendations on places to visit or makan? Any kind of suggestions are welcome, especially if you have pics for them.

If you could provide the coordinates of the locations, it would be even greater!

Cheers!

The food served at Lakehouse is actually quite good. The scones served for afternoon tea is just as good as the ones served at Ye Old Smokehouse in Brinchang. Careful Smokehouse is on the more costly side. At both of these, you need to book first.

Too bad you are at Lakehouse. I stayed there when I first went up. The place is good but it is at the lowest of the 3 points. The new road takes you straight to Brinchang, the highest town. If you take it, you have to drive down past Tanah Rata in the middle town to get to Ringlet the lowest town where the Lakehouse is located. Alternatively you will have to take the old road and get to Ringlet first. Ringlet where there are many value Chinese restaurants. But because Ringlet is the last point for the Cameron Vege "Trucks", it has become a truck stop. It can be busy and dusty.

Then further up from Lakehouse is the middle town of Tanah Rata. There are many stalls there. These are best for lunch. There is a curry house that is good here. I used to frequent a Nonya restaurant in Brinchang called Fern. The food there is good. Try the Highland Vege in belacan. During my last visit, I found it closed. Someone posted a Cameron track and lo and behold, my favorite Nonya restaurant moved just up the street next to another restaurant called May Flower Steamboat in Tanah Rata. The thread is here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3207&hilit=cameron+highlands
The thread also gives a lot of places to eat.

Then further up from there is the highest town of Brinchang. There are many restaurants in Brinchang.

The restaurant at Cameron Highland Resort is expensive but excellent. As mentioned earlier, the Ye Old Smokehouse is also in Brinchang right across from the Cameron Highland Resort.

During weekends, if you want to eat "trash", Brinciang host the night market. There's apam balik, roasted sweet corn, boiled groundnuts, yong tau foo and fried stuff.

Beyond brinchang which is also on the way up on the new roads, I see several new large Chinese restaurants opened. I have never tried them so I dont know.

Have a good time

Thanks for the info.

The Lakehouse looks good on internet. Nevermind, this is my first trip to Cameron, will check out the other hotels.
