I'll be going to New Zealand (South) this coming Sunday and is trying to get a map for this region. Is there any link where bros here can point me to? How to install the map on my Garmin Mobile XT? A noob here.

How can I merge the download NZ map into the sgfreemaps listed here? Can I rename the map and put it in the same folder?

It is highly unlikely you will drive from Sin-Malaysia to NewZealand, thus my recommendation is to use separate SD cards which are cheap and readily available to store each map separately. Change SD card when you land in NZ

But if you are adamant about merging them, you can use Garmin Mapsource to merge both maps as both MFM and NZ Open Map are Mapsource installers.

Gmaptool is another alternative.

Latest weekly release NZ Open GPS maps can be obtained free here.

Download the second link if you're using Mobile XT and don't have Mapsource.

Can I rename this file to something like gmapsupp-NZ.img instead of using the default name? Or, can I have multiple files for various countries in the same folder? Sorry for asking so much questions as I'm a noob in this Btw, my phone is a Samsung Omnia II.

I believe that it won't work if you renamed the file. Maybe someone else with Garmin XT experience can advise.

If you need multiple maps, you'll have to create the mapset using Garmin Mapsource then upload the file to your device.

I have some instructions here on how to create a gmapsupp.img but it's only for one country's map although you can keep adding multiple countries before performing the final upload.

I just tried using the default gmapsupp.img and this works. Must I be in NZ before I can use the map?

I'll give this mapsource and try as suggested.
