another website to go to is this. http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/ ... ng_erp.htm

It shows all the ERP location together with operation times and charges. You can also download the information in CSV format and view in excel.

I would suggest you use mapsource to plan your route and then check against the information provided.

Unless you are adventurous, I would suggest you park your car in the hotel and then use public transport. The public transport in Singapore is quite efficient. All the major areas such as shopping, tourist attractions, etc. are easily accessible by public transport and you just need to purchase one card to travel on the MRT and public buses unlike Malaysia.

As for the hotels/accommodation, afraid I cannot help you on these as most of my trips into Singapore are day trips.

mnoor,
i'm looking for cheap accommodation for 3-night stay. i rather spend more money on something else. how bad really is the area? any other cheap area you can suggest?
[color=#FF0000]Geylang is not as bad as it sounds. Authorities has clamp down on these activities but not totally eradicated. There are numerous decent "budget" hotels there ie.. Hotel81, Fragrance, Value etc.. Just get a room on higher floor. Hotels are concentrated between N1 18.698 E103 52.534 and N1 18.817 E103 53.080 )
An alternative is Balestier/Thomson area ( between N1 19.582 E103 50.525 and N1 19.196 E103 51.189 ) or West Coast / Pasir Panjang ( nearer to 2nd link, between N1 17.544 E103 46.085 and N1 17.491 E103 46.232 )

Balestier/Thomson is in centre of Singapore, lots of makan and short drive to city
I have put guests in Value Hotel@Thomson and all of them love it. Though it is a budget hotel, it has a pool !! http://www.valuehotel.com.sg

There are 2 Value Hotels in Balestier Road. One is near the junction of Balestier and Thomsonn Road while the other is near Whampoa Drive.

I believe you're from Muslim family, so very likely you have to dine out.

As for hotels around Geylang areas, avoid hotels from Lorong 22 downwards. Try Tristar Inn at Joo Chiat Road.

West Coast/ Pasir Panjang is to Western Part of Island, much more peaceful/less human/mechanical traffic  and city is a drive via the West Coast Highway. Vivo City / Sentosa a short drive away.

A friend of mine from KL booked the Hotel 81 at Lorong 14 I guess, he was manhandled by pimps and ushered him to pick some chicken, he he! At night, he heard noises of ooooooohhhhs and aaaaaaahhhhs from his room he he!

lorong 22 downwards, not onwards ajay! 22 onwards relatively further up though in same vicinity. Tristar Inn Hotel is another choice, this one within the Malay community area and your wife will love Joo Chiat Complex, plenty kain kain to buy he he!

Tristar and Value Hotels at Balestier isn't that bad. If you want to book Value Hotel, go for the one at Thomson, at night you can go to Novena Square and take the MRT to Orchard. Just stone throw from hotel to the Novena MRT around 0.75km only.
