My understanding is:
Track-UP : Garmin definition "Fixes the GPS receiver’s map display so the current track heading is at the top of the screen". Top of the screen always point in the direction your route is taking you i.e. your route ahead. For instance if your route takes you in a southerly direction, then the top of the screen point south and if your route takes you easterly direction, then the top of the screen is east.
Track-North : The top of the screen always points north, irrespective of where you are heading or your orientation.
I am still wondering what is the usage of track north. Probably for visual position fixing during trekking.

Re: Gps lag on Garmin Mobile XT
Bro SOSweet,
Nope, there are not other applications running and the lag does not appear on Mapking2007 and PapagoX3.
So I guess it has to do with the firmware of Win Mobile 6.5 being not quite efficient with Garmin application :-(

It is precisely because of the lag that I purchased an ext bt gps receiver with MTK II chipset which is better than the built-in Qualcomm gpsone chipset on Omnia i8000.
However, it is true that Garmin maps without polygons result in less lags than one with polygons. BTW, my Omnia i8000 runs on Win mobile OS 6.5 instead of 6.1, which according to some users there are no lags on Win mobile 6.1, but the lag is present in Win mobile 6.5.
Bro guanbee, B4 you activate your GPS, had you close all your other applications by using Task Switches ? Running too many programs at the background can drain your resources, resulted in program lag.
Mine Omnia II no problem using GMXT.

Does anyone experience gps lag with Garmin Mobile XT on your WM mobile phones?
BR,

I've been using this setup for a while now and I find that while the lag is still there but it's quite bearable, ie. not to the point where I would miss a turn, etc. However, I'm not saying that this is the best setup there is, and I'm also not sure whether some of these settings really make a difference in reducing the lag, but at least it works for me.
- Map is generated without polygons.
As for GMXT's Map settings:- Map Detail is set to "Normal"
- Orientation is set to "Track Up".
- Auto Zoom is disabled.
- No vehicle used (only default arrow used).
- Show Location is set "At GPS Location" (while this may result in recalculation if the road is not aligned with GPS location, I found out that GPS location/vehicle icon is slow to change course when turning at junctions, if it is set to "On Roads").
- Map Features > POI & Street Label is set to "No Label".
BTW, I'm using GMXT v5.00.20 on a WinMo 6.1 Pro device.
I will test this on my tube.
Thanks for the settings.

Like I mentioned earlier. I dont have a lag problem running GMXT with full polygons with Win6.5 on an HTC HD. So it is not a Win6.5 issue.
According to you, with and without the external GPS, you are experiencing the lag.
Another user is using the same phone with no issue.
Given all three input above, I can only conclude that the problem is with your specific device, GMXT and Map combination.

Hi all,
I think I am not alone, there are users overseas facing the same issue too:

Re: Gps lag on Garmin Mobile XT
It does seem to be a specific Omnia model problem.
Re: Gps lag on Garmin Mobile XT
just my 2 sen input on this subject. I am using GMXT (not sure which version) on my HP ipaq rw6828, running winmo 5. the hp comes with only 128MB - 54 MB for ROM and 54 MB for RAM. It cannot support higher than 2GB SD Card. My PDA is paired with a Houlx GPSlim 236 BT GPSr.
I load the map to GMXT using mapsource, removing all the polygons, topo maps, east malaysia mapsets, thailand mapsets, etc i.e. all those which i don't think i will be visiting. Previously I run GMXT together with the phone on the PDA but have since been using the PDA strictly as a PND. I use Memmaid to switch off all un-necessary programs and to optimize the settings. Other than the normal off-set/accuracy, I have yet to notice any noticeable lag. FYI my tracking is set to most frequent, map details to normal. I think I will try bro dvpro setting to see there is any difference.
As some bros here have mention, lag is just a perception and unless you get a dedicated GPS unit, you will always get lagging...
PS my next project is to change the settings to bro dvpro setting to see if there is any difference. Also to try different mapsets combo i.e. just singapore and johore only.

Hi all,
If you run Mapking2007 on Omnia II, you will notice that its gps position on map is on the spot and very accurate, compared to Garmin mobile xt.

I think like bro drsec says, it seems to be specific to Omnia model. from the posts here and other places, gmxt on winmo devices do not seems to have this problem. maybe mapking software runs better on omnia.

Re: Gps lag on Garmin Mobile XT
yeah depends on brands too. my htc runs gmxt better than mapking2007. gmxt lags is tolerable for me.
