Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile

Hi all,

Does anyone experience gps lag with Garmin Mobile XT on your WM mobile phones?

I've been using this setup for a while now and I find that while the lag is still there but it's quite bearable, ie. not to the point where I would miss a turn, etc. However, I'm not saying that this is the best setup there is, and I'm also not sure whether some of these settings really make a difference in reducing the lag, but at least it works for me.

• Map is generated without polygons.
  As for GMXT's Map settings:
• Map Detail is set to "Normal"
• Orientation is set to "Track Up".
• Auto Zoom is disabled.
• No vehicle used (only default arrow used).
• Show Location is set "At GPS Location" (while this may result in recalculation if the road is not aligned with GPS location, I found out that GPS location/vehicle icon is slow to change course when turning at junctions, if it is set to "On Roads").
• Map Features > POI & Street Label is set to "No Label".

BTW, I'm using GMXT v5.00.20 on a WinMo 6.1 Pro device.

Tested your settings, it does reduce the lagg but during navi no sound come out.

Btw, when change to track up (orientation)... there is another setting..Only below " 200km"

err "track up"... what is the difference between this and track north and the other settings? Also when I set this it ask something like how many miles/meters/etc? Can someone enlighten this setting or point to topic in forum if already covered.

Track up is 2D mode with the north part (of the map) facing towards direction of travel, while North up is 2D mode with the north part facing north. In GMXT you can specify further when track up will change to north up after a certain level of zoom is reached.

the setting above works for me. the lag reduced quite significantly. only thing is that the "Track Up" display is not as nice as "3D Orientation"

Hmm... either form over factor or factor over form, it's your choice.

today I had a day trip to Melaka and decided to check out this lagging issue. Settings on GMXT on my PDA paired with holux gpslim 236 BT GPSr was using bro dvpro setting but after a while decided to ditch track up and replaced with 3-D. Was getting dis-oriented with the "track North" setting. My findings:-

1. Travelling at 140 km/hr, lag is nearly 3 seconds (counting 1,2 not by stopwatch) or nearly 100 meters (I checked this against the road distance markers). but then again, if you are travelling that fast, it compounds the problem. I checked this by referring to the exit points on the R & R against the map on the gps. But oddly at some R & R exits, the gps had me in front eg. Machap R & R North-bound.

2. Travelling at lower speed around 90 - 110 km/hr, the lag appears shorter i.e. around 1-2 seconds and the difference in location around 50 meters.

3. In Melaka town, the lag appears to be quite minimal, unless you are travelling at 140 km/hr in the town, you should have ample time to plan your next moves as usually the gps will prompt you the next turn way before you arrive at the turn.

Therefore unless you really need to be quite accurate at high speed, a lag should not be a problem.

PS I notice my gmxt gives a prompt on the turn/turning direction around 100 meters and then again around 50 meters. Is there any way to shorthen this?

Also, today kena samman for speeding . travelling 137 km/hr. GMXT did not detect or it is a new spot. How do you record the co-ordinates of speed-traps.

Last time i used to be able to help you out if you owned a Sony Ericson. unfortunately, my friend retired liao. My ex classmate at Nokia also left. only samsung i can provide u a solution.
