AFAIK, Garmin does not release their apps for Android, only pre-installed ones for the garmin-asus/nuvifone. As 'screen size being too small', these are for smartphones, not for tablets. Why do you say 'small screen usually cause accidents'?

I'd like to get one A50 for phone + navigation purposes. Really fed-up with 'regular' android phones, satellite lock taking 2-3 minutes and sensitivity very poor.

I've used a Garmin BT receiver before which can lock even 10 meters from nearest window.

So my question is, A50 cold start takes how long? Sensitivity good enough in extra urban streets?

You must not have no doubt on A50. You can still lock satellite signal at 1st floor of 2-3 storey concrete shop house. Normally without A-gps turn on, 3-10sec. Never worried about the satellite locking signal. Trust me!!!
Oh! I saw in yesterday newspaper, if you buy A50 at Senq, free 19" led TV. Check it out!

The map you are using is from malsing, not from mfm. FYI, mfm Garmin map does not have Junction View or Lane Assist.

External battery pack for Garminfone A50 or Nuvi

Postby Liongsan » Sun Apr 15, 2012 6:36 pm

Hi Each & Everyone,
Just got myself the A50 ~ like it coz it's GPS and cellphone in one.
However, it drains the battery in a matter of 2-3 hrs GPS usage.
Will someone shed some light on external battery pack.
A Chinese site has something like 2200mAh to 15000mAh battery packs.
What does that mean? Which is recommended?

Yes, 2 -3 hours is about the normal duration you'd get if you run the GPS on its internal batteries.

mAh is a measure of a battery capacity. For example 2200 means that should a device drains 2200 mA of current, it should last 1 hour.

Buy the largest capacity possible in the smallest size to match your budget. And make sure the unit come with the appropriate plugs to match your device.
