Dear members,

I went to Budapest in October to meet representatives of NavNGo, the company making the iGo application. Part of the discussion was whether they are interested to provide us tools to create free iGo maps. The short answer was NO. So Garmin will still be our only format.

Lets not pin point anyone or any GPS devices...

All GPS's bring you home if you have the map.
But if the GPS's dun have LOCAL map or latest local map you better call a CAP.

Too bad that the tools for iGo and Tom Tom are closed. At least here Garmin was smart.

A GPS without letting me know in advance, in which direction I have to go or most of t he time keeps silent, is useless for me. For me personally I have the only useful results with iGo and the 2007/12 map.

Sorry for your 'bad' first impression about Garmin nuvi. I hope you can meet one of the forum members, and shows you the 'CORRECT' way how Garmin nuvi should operates. I am also a new with Garmin nuvi, and I already traveled several thousands of kilometers with it and I am satisfied. Not much imajor ssues.

If you dont mind, could you share with us, 'where' is the place which your friend's nuvi got lost?.I hope you still keep the track log of the journey in your iGO.

TQ.

Hi,

I had not used any other GPS devices like the much talk about iGo or TomTom software so I am not able to compare them to Garmin. But base on my first time actual personal experience I had with Garmin Street Pilot C330 when I was in Melbourne 2 years ago, it was like god given. We landed in the airport around 9pm and we rented 2 cars and the Gramin Street Pilot C330 and our destination was 85km from the Airport. All we had was a hand drawn map and the destination address.

We key in the address and the destination pop up. So off we go but I must admit we are a bit worry because that is the first time we used a GPS. We struggle a bit as we were either driving too fast missing the turn or turning too early. But once we got used to the way the Garmin Street Pilot C330 is guiding us we were on our way smoothly. Yup we reach our destination safely and through out the next 7 days the Garmin GPS was our most treasured device because without it we would not be able to get back to the resort we are staying.

Anyway the direction given by the Garmin GPS unit was accurate, not distracting IMO. Like I said I had not use the iGo before so I cannot compare but I would like to so anyone got a unit I can get my hands on .

Hi,

I bought my Nuvi 310 (TTS) with the Ozzie'07 map at end of 2006 in Sydney. It guided me well during my journey along the great oceon drive from Melbourne airport, making two overnite stay at motels along the route. During late 2007, using only the garmin world routable basemap, I was able to find my way to my hotel in waginengen from schipol airport, arriving in the dark!(Didn't know by 6pm you need headlights to know where you are going) The main advantage of garmin gpsr is that you get mapsource sw where u can preplan your route and then download waypoints as vias to ensure that the route taken is as planned. Yes garmin's strength is in the handheld gpsr and are late entrant to the vehicle guidance system, but most of us started using handheld gpsr (my first is the gps76) and now finding the vehicle guidance system easy to use. Newer garmin models will eventually have similar features with competing brands. In Malaysia we have two maps that are being updated regularly and I don't think this is possible using other mapping system here. Kudos to malfreemaps, esp with the new contour maps incorporated in it.

Cheers

I'd like to ask the same question on behalf of my friend.

She recently bought a C905 Sony E. The problem with it, is none of the garmins would work due to its sophisticated A200 firmware nature which is just rubbish.
Proprietary OS's are sometimes plain annoying. In this case it is. I have however installed trekbuddy for her but i need to know if gmapsupp.img can be converted to a .tar file so that trekbuddy would read it.
