Photo came out very blurr.....Findings:
1. Need to drive very slow to have a good focus.
2. Need a very high speed and fast auto focus camera, *use sport option.
3. Driving at left lane will have better angle.
4. Better to use MPV or 4WD to have good visibility of the junction.
5. Need a co driver.
6. Better do the shooting at non peak hour.....drive slowly wait till less car in your front view.....prepare to be horned by car behind.

I've failed all the above criteria... Picture came out totally out of focus....PAISE PAISE.Anyway, just for the feel and fun of it for a start. :-'

*KESAS Highway exist Jalan Kebun/Kampung Jawa---towards KL.

From the pix, can't really identify the exit :) Bro, I think too far from the ramp. Try slightly nearer.

Well, new challenge for all MFM members :D

This morning tried again. Noticed that if shooting too far, the exist junction will be too small to be visible. If shooting near for clearer view of junction, then the signboard will be missed out. How to combine both? :-k

Here is what I think we should start off (laying good foundations):

1. Quality of Junction Photos
a. minimum 3 megapixel (photo taken at highest possible resolution)
b. maximum ISO 400
c. MANDATORY: Daylight (photo taken at daylight with clear sharp view of signage)
d. submission with waypoint

Thoughts:
- repository of one time effort to capture good raw images
- further enhancements to include fine details possible without having to spend effort to recapture
- further enhancements to use for other functions (if needed)

2. Quality of Junction View Graphics (Processed)
a. phase I - just the road and signage
b. phase II - detailed junction view graphics to include surroundings

Thoughts:
- keep phase I simple to enable MFM to cover as many junctions as possible in the shortest time frame
- future phase II to include more details in the Junction View Graphics

3. Data Acquisition
a. volunteers (similar to polygon mappers) to be the core and also vet the public contributions
b. public submissions - provide a clear set of guidelines and procedural steps for submission

4. Graphics Development

Thoughts:
- I am not in the field of graphics/photography, thus not sure how much effort it takes, what tools required, etc. Maybe others in this field can advise.

edchuang,

No offense. I think mobile phone shots cannot make it (even with Nokia N-series).

Good photos with sharp wordings, clear signage and overall brightness (daylight) is essential to produce good JCV graphics (using automated tools or manual human work).

Thus, I strongly suggest using an above average digital camera (not those mobile phones) with at least 3.1 megapixel, set to maximum resolution to take the photos.

From what I see, pictures of junctions shouldn't be much of a problem. The main problem lies with the wordings on the signbroad. In order to get good conversion results, the wordings on the photo will need to be really sharp.

I tried playing around with one of the photo that bro abdulrahmanbius posted using some cheapo apps and here are the result.
