Getting "unable to calculate" when going from Penang to Kg Cina in Kota Bharu, Kel but able to route to Wakaf Bharu in Tumpat, Kel. Changed destination to Kg Cina while on the way there.

Yes, for devices that do not support multi-point routing, at least if the final destination can be routed (albeit a longer route), a via point can usually be inserted into the route to re-'adjust' the route.

However for "unable to calculate" error when calculating final destination, the possible work around would be like what you have done above, ie. setting 'temporary' destination to a mid-point, and then only continue with the final destination when reaching the mid-point or somewhere in between.

Coming back from Kelantan to Penang couple of days ago, was quite a frustration. I'm getting "unable to calculate" error right from beginning at Wakaf Baru, Tumpat all the way to Jeli. Have to set destination to titi wangsa viewpoint rest area before setting final destination to Bukit Tengah, Penang upon reaching there.

About a month ago, I was able to get routing all the way from Wakaf Baru to Bukit Tengah. Looks like it is getting worse.

Unable to calculate route to destination.

Garmin versi 5.00.50
Nokia E71

Jika saya dari wakaf bharu ingin ke pokok sena kedah pula, gps akan memberikan laluan melalui negara thailand.

Guys, please be informed that there is still no solution for this issue which (as far as I know) only affects GMXT and older Nuvi2x0, Nuvi7x0, etc.

Hi

Jez came back from Kelantan. I took the route from Grik through Rantau Panjang, Jeli, Tanah Merah. The Route 196 seemed okay as I reached my destination (Sutera Inn) at about 5.36 after I started my journey at about 12.30 Friday from Pengkalan Hulu.

Everywhere I went, my Nuvi 765 (using mfm 100405) took me to my destination perfectly. However, when I moved to Perdana Resort (Pantai Cahaya Bulan) I decided to take dinner at Pizza Hut Pengkalan Chepa. My Nuvi took me through some remote kampung roads. I was afraid so I decided to turn back. I switched to Malsingmap. This also took me through some slightly better remote kampung roads. I finally reached my destination safely.

Going back time from Pizza Hut to Perdana Resort was a very harrowing experience for me and my family. I had again switched to MfM. First, I was on a piece of road that looks like a highway. My scarrying journey back home to Perdana Resort begins when my Nuvi directed me to take a left turn from the highway. That route seemed like the route I had followed earlier. When it again directed me to turn right, I noticed I was now on a piece of gravel road (untarred). The road was very narrow. It fitted only one car. If there is an oncoming car, you have to momentarily stop by it's side to let the other car pass-by or vice-versa. It was a dark night. There was no road lights. The road is lighted only by my car headlights.

Then it began...my heart sanked...I was trembling...I had all of my family members except my second son who could not make the trip together with me. The other four and my wife were with me. All of them fell into scary silence when they saw what I saw and what I had to do. I cannot reverse. The road as I said was narrow. I do not know what was by the sides of the road. Maybe land...maybe marsh...maybe the river as what lies ahead of me was a narrow wooden bridge...and I think the river is the Kelantan river...I cannot assess the strength of the bridge...I do not know whether it will stand the weight of my car with six people inside...

I recited some Quranic verses...in His hands I left my fate and that of my family members...and I began crossing the wooden bridge. It took about 5 minutes to reach the end...Had it collapsed when I was just crossing the bridge, my generation would be gone. We would have been history.

When I finally reached the end, I thought it was all over. No. The narrow roads continued by taking me through some sharp bends with the river by it's side! When I finally see lands on both side of the road about 5 minutes later I thanked Allah endlessly for letting me and my family members to see the lights of the day again..

The route was a short route. But I think, safety should be considered foremost especially when it comes to crossing rivers for motorist to follow. An alternative route could be suggested. Never mind if it takes a longer time.

Today when I woke up, I shuddered. There was an eerie feeling running through my body.

Please do not misunderstand me. I am delighted to have MfM maps as well as Malsingmaps in my Nuvi. Both have been very useful tools. But I think, the journey should be one that everyone will cherish to remember.

This is the reason why sometimes mappers cut the alley roads in the middle. Afraid a situation like this would happen to users.
But I would like to ask u if u set on "faster time" or shorter distance"?
I would always recommend users to use faster time route setting.

Bro Shaharuddin,

Sorry to here of your bad experience. Would be best if you could plot the route in mapsource and upload the gdb file so that we can take a look at it.

Further, did you checked avoid unpaved roads in the avoidance setups.

Regards
