Chinese Medicine Hall in Taman OUG, KL

Postby AW* » Fri May 29, 2009 2:23 pm

Hi.

here's a chinese medicine hall (chinese apothecary) located in OUG. A very good and skilled chinese sinseh there. Quite famous and popular, always full-house with people queueing patiently for their turn. Reasonably priced too.

Restaurants - more yummy eateries

Postby AW* » Fri May 29, 2009 3:43 pm

Hi All

here's a short collection of eateries that i've tried out - it passed my sis' "taste test" so i figure it is good enough to post here :)

Eateries around OKR Area :

1) KFC Danau Desa
almost latest addition to the KFC stable. Opened December 2008. Not 24hr outlet though
No rating needed. Everyone knows KFC

2) Fisherman's Wharf - homely pub cum restaurant serving mix of asian and western dishes. Secret : favourite watering hole of certain bloggers...your favourite blogger used to frequent this place until he decided to travel igcognito now. why don't you check out this place?
ambience : 5 / 5
price : 3/5
food (taste) : 4/5
cleanliness : 5/5
service : 4/5
hours : usual business hours, sorry forgot which day they're off.
Parking : available (free parking after 7pm)

3) Loong Fatt Restaurant - nondescript restaurant run by father and son team. but their cooking is fabulous cos food is cooked with passion and skill with minimal msg. price is reasonable too. you can opt for al-fresco dining next to the park or air-conditioned room. sometimes they have fresh shark meat and sharkfin. sorry i forgot the opening hours. (exactly next door to namseng bah kut teh)
price : 4/5
food (taste) : 6/5
service : 5/5
cleanliness: 4/5
hours: closed on wednesdays
parking ; available and free

4) Madras Lane Chee CHeong Fun, 3rd Mile Square OKR - OKR branch of the famous madras lane chee cheong fun in petaling streeet. Now ye fans of Madras Lane Chee Cheong Fun around OKR can have your fill at 3rd Mile Square.

food (taste): 4/5
cleanliness : 4/5
hours :sorry didn't check :(
parking : pay per hour (token flat rate on weekends).

5) Deli Sushi at Kuchai Lama Entrepreneur Park
Surprisingly affordable family-run japanese restaurant that stays true to its japanese theme. Have a great selections of fish head noodle (it's nod to local influence). More tastier that its closest rival nearby.

price : 4/5
food (taste) : 4/5
cleanliness : 5/5

6)Ying Jia Dim Sum at Happy Garden Food Centre.
Expanded from a small shoplot to the "food centre" , (next to CST Bah Kut Teh)
Suprisingly good tasty dim sun at standard (reasonable) price. Much better than their rival at the other end of the row. Quite popular judging from the crowd, especially weekend mornings onward. THey are now expanding into "Tong Sui" / Sweet Dessert which is available from 9am until like 5pm. SPecial discount on selected tong sui from 3pm-5pm. Nightime food served is Tai Chow and Steamboat.

Food (taste): 4/5
Cleanliness : 4/5
Hours - 9am - 5pm (dim sum and tong sui), 6pm onwards SteamBoat and Tai Chow

Eateries at Tmn Segar, Cheras

1) Tempt-A-Tempt (sdn bhd) - Specialises in "Siew lap" or "all types of roasts".
We ordered Siew Ngap (roast duck) and Char Siew (roast sweet pork), stir-fried vege and fried enoki mushroom.
Tasty! The enoki mushroom dish is creative - basically enoki mushroom in a light batter mixed with spiced (as in herbal 5-spice) salt. Innovative dish. I finished two bowls of rice with this dish alone! The rice served is definitely of good quality fluffy and just nice with mild aroma. add to the taste experience. The stir-fry vege is done just nice - with a light hand on the seasoning (less oil and less salt). The char siew is roasted just right - right balance of seasoning, crispiness, marination, etc - meat is fresh. However the roast duck is a slight let down when in appearance it looked tasty. my sis said that marination has not penetrated into the meat hence the aromatic taste is like at the "skin" level...crispiness is done just right. no gamey or "duck" tang to the meat. Rice is a tad expensive for the small serving. but worth the price you paid. I was on vegetarian diet the day we ate there and i was sastified with the two vege dishes we ordered.
Ambience : 5/5
Price : 3/5
Food (taste) : 5/5 for the rice, both vege dishes and char siew. 3/5 for the duck.
Cleanliness : 5/5
Hours : assume standard operation hours from 12pm to 10pm
parking : may be difficult in day time on weekdays :-k but if you park at leisure mall and walk, there's no problem. more parking bays available weekends though.

2) U-Soya : For all your soya bean dessert needs!
Featured in Ho Chiak. Selling home-made tau jeong, tau fu far, and certain selection of local delicacies (like kuih, nasi lemak, curry noodle, etc). Strength is in its variety of toppings for its tau fo far - even have a savoury version. we ordered tau fu far original, tau fu far with almond flakes toppinsg and tau fu far with sunflowerseeds topping. you get a choice of white sugar syrup, gula melak syrup and brown sugar syrup. Tau jeong - white tau jeong or black tau jeong.
Ambience : 3/5 (standard outlet with minimal decoration - focus is on the quality of their food)
Price : 3/5
Food (taste) : 4/5
Cleanliness : 4/5
Hours: sorry i've forgotten. :(
parking: same as for Tempt-a-tempt

Eatery at DOwntown KL

1) Sin Hou Haou (gps coordinates actually contributed by Bro CWYAP)
Old fashioned Kopi-Tiam featuring Good Old KOPI - they made their own coffee powder. Possible the best kopi i've tasted. Really! Aromatic without the bitter and sourish after taste. I'm pining for a cuppa already =P~ Also possible the best French Toast I've tasted -freshly made aromatic with crispiness done just nice - not the typical oil-ladden/oil-soaked or reeking of recycled oil taste (incidentally the french toast served at yat kee doesn't even come near this in taste - yat kee's french toast reeks of recycled oil). Oh, you gotta try their dry curry sauce. =P~ =P~ =P~ =P~ this i had from my sis and a friend who are chili and curry aficionados! And do check out their framed copy of licence for their trademark patent. This shop has history! I can't remember when i had such luxurious enjoyable slow breakfast. Had to admit i wolfed down 2 sets of French Toast, 2 cups of hot kopi-o and 1 bowl of curry fish ball meehoon! =P~ =P~ =P~ =P~
Ambience : 5/5
Price : 5/5
Food (taste) : 5/5
Hours : Hmm :-k I know they opened in the morning, they served breakfast but i didn't ask what is their closing time/day. ](*,)
parking : well, :-k you can either park illegal right in front of their shop or take a slight detour and park at the open space parking at jln gereja and walk - just like 5 mins walk away. sorry didn't have coordinates for the parking lot.
