I stayed at Tanjung Inn, Kg Cherating Lama back in 2000. Coordinates - N4 07.536 E103 23.431 (yup, still in existence). Nice quiet place with a man-made pond. Just a stone throw away from the beach. Suitable for family. All chalets.

In 2006, my family stayed at a god-forsaken place which I had forgotten the name - also in Kg Cherating Lama. But it's somewhere around N4 07.617 E103 23.735. Bad attitude staff and run down room/bathroom/aircond. Complained but was ignored. Posted complaint thereafter on their website but they removed it. All I remember about that horrible place is that it's double-storey.

In 2008, went to Club Med, Cherating (office trip). I prefer the beach at Kg Cherating Lama compared to the one in Club Med. So that gives you an idea about the quality of the beachfront at Club Med.

Since Kemaman is just a short drive away, go to Kedai Kopi Hai Peng (N4 14.076 E103 25.323) for makan [closed on Friday if I'm not mistaken]. Suitable for all races. A truly muhibbah place. Locally brewed coffee - very good  . And I love the prepacked nasi dagang - yummy =P~ . Lots of typical Malaysian breakfast spread there so go in the morning but be prepared to stand and hover over occupied tables.

I have seven (7) years of living in Dungun, Terengganu...
for all beach i ever go.. then I recommend you to going:
1. Kuala Abang beach.. its not far to the north dungun (10 km only), its very nice beach with rockstone mountain in beach but sloping beach.. very safe even for babies
2. Pantai Kemasik, its very very nice scenery in beach, there is small island only 100 meter from beach.. and can go by swimming.
3. there is Very nice beach in south Cherating, dekat kampung (lupa nama)... its very sloping beach and ripple wave even in musim ketujuh, and very save for hildren. (you can go through 500 meter to sea and water only limited at neck )
4. Pantai Kluang and Pantai Besut (its very nice but very far from Terengganu near kelantan border ).

thats it..

The Sabah beaches, esp. the island ones are a different ball game altogether. I had the pleasure of visiting one ...
