hi guys, i read a couple of review on this site and finally decided to get a set from challenger. but after using it a while, here are my findings..

1) intially waited 20mins below my blk under no roof...no signal...finally got frustrated and drove out...and tats like 20mins later i got signal...wtf i already reached my destination lol.

2)i set it up for ERP and camera warning but none sounded out or appeared...zzz even my iphone naviphone manage to tell me.....

3)finally when it does get signal, there are no other routes...its bascially telling me to go 1 huge round to get to where i wana go...i think even noob drivers wont take tat route...

seriously disappointed and wondering if i got myself and faulty set...it seems that this dedicated device i bought is not even comparable to a 10 bucks iphone app...sighhh...

can anyone tell me if i am doing something wrong or i got myself a faulty set...
much appreciated..
thanks

Sounds like you got a can of worms to debug .. lets start from basic...

What is the map version that was preloaded into your Nuvi?

How many maps did you select ? Rule of thumb, you use only one map set at one time.

Maps of same tiles ( country ) can reside in your Nuvi, but you should at any one time use only one "active" map.

You have to understand how a GPS works. The GPS satellites constellation broadcast 2 types of data, Almanac and Ephemeris. Almanac data is course orbital parameters for all satellites in the constellation. Ephemeris data by comparison is very precise orbital and clock correction for each satellite and is necessary for precise positioning.

For first time lock, your GPS needs to receive all of the data from at least 4 GPS satellites before it can achieve lock and start tracking your position. This can take a a considerable period of time if the signal is weak.

If it is in Singapore, than it doesn't ready matter. Pick one and try out yourself which one you prefer to use when using it in Singapore.

Garmin NavTeq has the bells and whistles while MSM is the "more" updated map. You can also load MFM which has the "most" updated map.

Choice of which to use is yours to make.
