Good point, tom31.
As I said before just now, how the mapper to discuss giving the final say or answer.
Whatever your answer, will we respected. However, I hope it does not deviate from the original purpose of the establishment of this MFM. O:)

It's very interesting you used the term "VOX POPULI VOX DEI"

It means, the voice of the people is the voice of god.

Incidentally, it was used in this a letter to Charlemagne.

Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.

which translates to

And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

So in effect, your usage of that particular phrase makes your essay before that hugely diminished in meaning. :(

WITHOUT MFM, there is NO PAPAGO.

Totally agree "Without MFM there is no papago". A lot of android users will not buy papago if not for MFM. Sygic is so much better than Papago.

From what I see, this move might affect their business in the future if the upgrading is not done properly. And again, we will not involve.

Actually we don't need them to support the older software. We just need maps updates for the older software. If MFM continues produce map updates for the older software, the X8 will not be laku.

Who owns the map compiler. MFM or Maction/M3?

Based on MFM core philosphy:

8. We will not licence or sell our data outright. MFM will gladly produce free maps for leading GPS navigation softwares provide:
a) MFM mappers are provided with the tools and technical guidance to produce the map
b) MFM maps should not be locked or tied to other paid maps. MFM maps should be FREE (no payment required) and FREE (no condition attached)
c) MFM should be given total control over the release of our maps in any platform.

It does appear that Maction/M3 is control over MFM as the release of X5 maps are based on Maction/M3 terms, not MFM anymore.

Don't get me wrong, i'm very thankful that MFM has being providing free maps for Papago users. Screw Maction/M3 if they dont wanna play by MFM rule. I'd rather swap to other brands of software than to be at Maction/M3 mercy.

Cheers.

Point 8(c) is out of MFM's windows. If MFM still hold true to point 8(c), MFM should not obliged to Maction request to cease compiling maps for Papago! X3, X5, X6, Reality 7 and OEM as it was merely a request and not an obligation (unless the truth is not out). MFM should let Maction bow down to them and not the other way wrong unless .........(you fill in the blank).

From Maction's annoucement one can clearly see that without MFM most likely they will fail as they are heavily dependent on MFM for Malaysia and Singapore maps updates to succeed in this region.

MFM you have done well in the past upholding your principles :tq: :good: but sad to say things have changed.

If you have bought the x5 and is now being upgraded to x8 for free why not do it instead of crying on the discontinuation of the x5 map. Papago must have its reason/s to stop x5 and offer the free upgrade, you can't fault them. If your device cannot be upgraded go bark at Papago.

The Mappers here work for free and compiling an obsolete map format just to satisfy a small diehard group is grossly unfair to them. We rather see them spend time resolving issues on the newer Garmin POIs... etc then to do something like supporting obsoleted map format #-o

If you are using genuine x5 please upgrade.... to the other users please buy the x8.... cheers!

The problem now is not about can be upgraded or not. The problem is, the majority of users on here still use the old version, why they need to follow the dictates Maction hand. Follow the majority, except MFM & Maction have other interests. :-k

We as consumers here are extending our highest appreciation and thanks for all the efforts mapper here. But we ask if the MFM independent, not tied to any party, 'prihatinlah' to the majority of users here. O:)
