It’s back to original Alor Setar
By EMBUN MAJID

ALOR SETAR: Kedah’s state capital has returned to its original name of Alor Setar with immediate effect.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the decision was made during the state exco meeting here yesterday, adding that the state government would change its letterhead and road signage in line with the move.

“We decided upon the proposal submitted by the Housing and Local Government unit which felt that the original name of Alor Setar is much suited than the current name.

“The name Alor Setar was given when the area was opened as the state administrative centre more that 300 years ago,” he said after chairing the state exco meeting.

The name was changed to Alor Star four years ago to give it a modern sound.

According to the state’s history, the name Alor Setar comes from two words – “Alor” which means small river and “Setar” which is the name of a tree, bouea macrophylla, which bears small, sourish fruits.

Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin opened Alor Setar on Dec 31, 1735 when he moved his palace from Kota Bukit Pinang to Kota Setar. Kota Setar was eventually renamed Alor Setar.

Hi Bro,

Can we downgrade all these roads to alley because they are just small kampung roads which are only wide enough for one car at any given time:

1. Near Taman Delima, Sg Petani, Kedah.
2. Near Taman Delima, Sg Petani, Kedah.
3. Near Taman Padimas, Sg Petani, Kedah.
4. Near Taman Dahlia, Sg Petani, Kedah.

I also would like to extend the dirt road as marked in GDB file.
:tq:

Suggest to remove

Mwe Plz
George Town, Penang
N 05.42188
E 100.33528

because duplicate entry, there is MWE Plaza (pointing to same location) available as well.

I saw only 1... - OngCC

@ N5.42353 E100.33165

A flood mitigation project has resulted in the "temporary" closure of the left-turn from Jln Sultan Ahmad Shah (Northam Rd) into Transfer Rd. It doesn't look like the project will be finished before March this year.

I will report again once the project has finished and the left-turn reopened.

Thanks.

PS: Left-turn from Transfer to Sultan Ahmad Shah is still OK. All existing Turns Restrictions at this junction remain in place.

Coming out from Bandar Laguna Merbok, Sungai Petani using Lebuh Laguna Merbok 1 (SW) towards Sungai Petani Western bypass N, the route suggested a 360 degrees turn at the traffic light. It should be just a 90 degrees left turn.

Attached is the 360 degrees turn.
