Hi mchiu,

There are 4 font files in the nüvi 200 upgrade:
006-D1053-60.bin
006-D1053-64.bin
006-D1053-65.bin
006-D1053-67.bin
and you have normaly two font files in the Garmin/ExtData/ of your Oregon:
006-D0952-05.bin
006-D0952-06.bin

Make a backup of these two files and replace them by 006-D1053-60.bin and 006-D1053-67.bin, which you will rename according to what was in your GPS. So you will have two different files with the same name (006-D0952-05.bin and 006-D0952-06.bin).
It appears, once this done, that it is not possible to have arabic menu anymore, so I guess that the arabic font is in one of the original files. I do not use arabic menu, but I am still looking for a way to manage to have all the languages in the same GPS.

If you want to display the chinese you need the file taiwanese.gtt in the Garmin/text folder of your oregon. Check if you have it or not. If it is not the case, you should install the taiwanese upgrade proposed by samra above, this will install the files needed to display the menu in chinese, except the font files that I had to take from the nüvi 200.
If you want to have the possibility of displaying japanese menu, you can download the japanese colorado upgrade and copy the japan.gtt file in your GPS.

Hope this will help

I have performed the instruction abv according, to upgrade using the Taiwanese firmware 2.80, followed by renaming the 2 Nuvi BIN files, as well as add in the Taiwanese.gtt file into the text folder.
what I get now is additional 2 selection on system fonts. however, after selection, nothing seems chnaged :frus:
any clue?

I do not know,

It is true that for me only japanese is nicely working. Chinese appears as a system language selection but if I push on it, it will become japanese...
May be a problem with the taiwanese.gtt file ?

I guess once the font is regognized, it should be ok for displaying chinese characters on asiatic maps. I am not sure, I will try tomorrow with my japanese map and let you know. But Européan non-ascii characters dispay normally even with japanese menu, so language in the map and language in the menu are probably not related.

Hi Shaahrazade,

Thank you very much for the useful informations. Still a question for sure, have you tried to input european characters like Russian, Greek, French, German.. (with Taiwanese firmware?) and it worked?? Thanks! Maybe your answer was already somewhere but I could not find it:)

Well, I did not tried everything, but I had no problem with french, german, slovenian, arabic and greek. The maps and menus display normally when I swiched for one language to another. I brought the garmin city navigator middle East map (ababic peninsula) and the maps displayed in arabic when I settled the language to arabic. But everything is in "english" with other languages (those I tried at least, and I did not tried all).

I played a while with japanese menu. I did not yet put the japan map in my GPS so I do not know how it will be, but the european maps do not show any problem even with the language settled to japanese. German, french, etc. characters display normally.

may be I didn't check in detail. after some reboot and scroll thru menu and sub-menu, I realised that in fact there is some changes, in most of the screen, the chinese and english menu are mixed !!

is it because all 4 *.bin files need to be used? but for Arabic, only 2 files, hence our method only work as a direct substitute for 2-font file char set and chinese need 4 ??

may be we need to download Oregon Taiwanese set to see how many font file are there in the extdata dir??? :ko:
