Hi,
By paying a bit more, TomTom provides free lifetime unlimited WORLD MAPS! I wonder how is Garmin going to react? I am a big fan of Garmin NUVIs, but I believe experienced GPS users will agree with me that map updates are more important than the brand of GPS that you buy.
I really hope that Garmin is listening.......

Even without live traffic, Garmin or TomTom are losing market due to Google or Waze is Free-of-Charge (FOC).
Only those heavy travelers need standalone GPS unit for backup.

I prefer to use our MFM-Garmin & MFM-Papago Maps.
Re: TomTom gives free lifetime unlimited WORLD MAPS!
For me both google map and dedicated gps complement each other. I use google map to see my overall route (easy to zoom in and out), traffic condition, street view of my destination and use my papago as my gps. This way I can safe my phone battery and data. But for short distance driving I use google map. What I love about dedicated gps particularly papago gps is malfreemaps junction view.

Before starting my journey and periodic check along the way , I use Google map and Waze for traffic condition.
If you are in or around poor or no data area or new territory ( untracked )
Standalone GPS ( can backtrack) is still the way to go for me with
