while at it,probably add extra voice file for speed trap and other custom POI.Like when approaching a speed trap with 90km/h,instead of beep beep beep beep, why not change the sound to "speed trap,90 kilometer per hour","speed trap,110 kilometer per hour","Red light traffic cam ahead","School zone ahead","Sharp bend ahead"

Quite difficult to find voice actresses who can do a better job than Garmin or Sexy Babe. The only other voice I am interested in is Pua Chu Kang's :D

Perhaps somebody at Singapore who know him can introduce him to MFM and be special "voice" guess...

PS : If you found this forum, "Mr Pua", please volunteer yourself.

I did a custom voice for railway crossing and sharp bend poi.It would be good for GPS unit that do not have TTS

Web appearance of MFM looks very similar with MSM. Is it possible to change color scheme of this web? At least MFM have different color and own identity.

MFM & MSM both use phpbb3's subsilver2 style (both set up by me :D ) therefore the forum appearance is the same. I had looked around other styles. Some of them may be more colorful or fancy but I found them not so comfortable to the eyes.

At MFM, you have 3 themes to choose from. Change board style at:
ucp.php?i=165

About Bus Routes
apisfires wrote:2) How we set bus route? every route have code, eg U80 for Shah Alam-KL and T68 for Shah Alam-Kelang...
its useful for foreigner and handheld GPS owner for 1st time use bus in KL and Selangor, each bus have code only...

For bus routes, a user really need a "public transport journey planner". Good examples of such are ...
(1) SG SBSTransit - http://www.sbstransit.com.sg/index.aspx?s=jp ... asks roadname/landmark for start and destination; then give multiple shortest travelling time solutions, making use of multiple mode (walking, bus & rail); also gives fares (ezlink & cash)
(2) SG TransitLink - http://www.transitlink.com.sg/eguide2.html ... asks roadname/landmark/postalcode/mrtstations for start and destination; gives multiple shortest time or cheapest fare options.
(3) UK TransportForLondon - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner ... asks station/postcode/address/POI for start and destination; then give multiple solutions using multiple modes (walking, bus & rail); fares checking separate page.
(4) GoogleTransit - http://www.google.com/transit ... available for 230+ world cities, asks address for start and destination; then gives multiple solutions; including travel time and fares.

The above works because the agencies published the following information ...
a) GPS accurate routes for each bus/rail
b) GPS accurate locations for each bus/rail stops/stations
c) fare tables for all combination of stops/stations start/destination
d) schedules (or frequencies) for each bus/rail trips

Unfortunately, we don't have the same for for KL or MY. Most of the bus (and public transport) do not even provide even their route maps and stops.

RapidKL does provide schematic overall routes plan, and schematic diagram of stop per route. See http://www.rapidkl.com.my/rapidbus_route.htm . What's missing is the GPS accurate routes and stops locations. If would be great if RapidKL can publish the route information in GDB/GPX format.

However, we don't have to wait for RapidKL to do it. We could also do our own GDB/GPX of the bus routes. Then our mappers could include in our maps (or have separate bus routes map file). 8-)

For example, the schematic of http://www.rapidkl.com.my/images/therm/area%206/local/t607_r20080821.gif could be "translated" into a route in Mapsource GDB file attached below. Only 165+ routes more to "translate". :-$

Postby fauzee » Fri Apr 03, 2009 12:21 am

Hello everybody..i just wanna share my idea with u..maybe our Administrators can considering this idea..how about MFM make their own ID card for all members. this ID card very useful when we need enter some Gated & Guarded area which security is very tight. it was happened to me when i found some new area..but the 'Pak Guard' not allowed me to enter coz i can't give him any ID Card or some reasonable intention..i was tell him many times that i'm the volunteer person for Non Profit Malaysia & Singapore Maps..i just need less than 1 hour to tracking but still can't give permission..it seem big losses for our contributions..   :( :( :fire: ](*,) ](*,) :peace: :peace: :peace: :rox: :rox: :rox:

i read with interest your suggestion for RM1000 donation to charity for companies who want to use your MFM.
Make it such that it is time limited eg the RM1000 is only licensed for use of the maps for 1 or 2 years. Do not give it free forever to companies making money out of your maps.

I suggest a thread for "road trips".
I enjoyed that thread very much in MSM and hope we have
something similar here. Afterall a gps device is suppost to
bring u to many known and unknown places and that will
certianly increase interest in collecting POIs and tracks.
