Nuvi 255 Vs 760

Postby azlanxp » Fri May 15, 2009 6:53 am

Hi guys,
currently i'm using nuvi 760
i'm not fully satisfy with this model because the refresh rate is too slow
if road have 2 junction in 150m
i always miss it if using Normal MFM map
if using lite is quite better

using normal map usually refresh for every 50m
lite is every 30m

after read the other thread
some of folk here said the 255 model is quite faster for refresh rate

is it OK to me to change from 760 to 255 model?
i will sell to my friend for 760 model

really appreciate your help

For Asian Edition 255W will gain you lane assist function, 500 more waypoints but you loose, quick docking/undocking capability, headphone jack, multiple routing / sorting capability, FM Tx, bluetooth, MP3, Audio Book

As for map refresh rate, it is not much better than 760. Better off keeping it and use MFM Lite or live with the refresh.

FYI, it is more resource demanding when navigating in 3D mode. Switch to track north / track up and the refresh rate is not noticeable ....

For those mounted on your car windscreen with the cradle provided, do take note that the cradle for 255 is different from 760 and it is kind of troublesome for 255 as it only comes with a USB Cable so when you take out and put back the 255 onto the cradle, you have to unplug and plug back the usb cable into the set itself.

Comparing to 760, the cable is connected onto the cradle so take out and put back the 760 will not need extra step to connect the power cable.
Currently Using : Garmin NUVI 3560LM with Live Traffic FM Receiver

Is it the refresh rate that is bad or is it the poor positional accuracy?

In my 200W case, it is the latter i.e. The positional accuracy is affected by the poor satellite reception caused by my car tint. This manifest itself in missing junctions when I dont get timely verbal instructions especially when there are several turn-off nearby, high occurrence of lost satellite reception and wrong position when parallel to a service road. I dont get this problem when on foot or in my other cars. Anyways I improved the problem by replacing the unit with a 255W with improved satellite reception. I also felt that the 200W was getting a little old and the reception was starting to degrade. (and I was itching for a new unit)

It is so easy to blame it on the map producing poor refresh rate or lags.

Also, by clear/delete track log also helps to reduce the lag, IMHO. You also can set Map Detail to Normal may also helps.

beware of update 4.80!

Postby Flyingwriter » Sat May 16, 2009 1:33 pm

Hey guys,

I just downloaded and installed software update version 4.80 from Garmin for my NUVI 760, just released. Unfortunately, it corrupted all my routes. I would stay clear of this update for now.

Better or not is a matter of perspective and expectations. The pros and cons has already been mentioned. It is up to you to decide.
