Found it to be more suitable for road riding. For mountain biking, I would stick to the hand helds.

One thing I don't like about Edge is using proprietory Li-ion batteries.

I wonder what these racers need it for? :-k

Maybe it is for them to analyze their performance after the race?

kakakakaka....

anyway, they not only use it for directions, it is a trainer and data logger too...
here's an extract from Garmin website - Edge 705 product page -

Trainer. Navigator. Edge 705 pushes you to do your best, then shows you the way back. This GPS-enabled cycle computer knows no limits. Get heart rate, cadence, turn-by-turn directions, power data (from ANT+™-enabled third-party power meters) — the works. Even share your data with other Edge 705 buddies after your ride. All wireless with a color display, this is no ordinary cycle computer.

The Edge looks absolutely good with ANT+ support, only if those Bike Power output meter are much cheaper. Nowadays a cyclometer (eg. Edge 705) with HRM and cadence meter are getting cheaper and beats other HRM hands down (Polar RS) except, Garmin devices are not fully water proof. Now if garmin is willing to make something that is water proof, at least up to 10m, I am more than happy to buy it. Else it would be like carrying a few devices with me throughout my training.
