Hi.
In the competitive word of F&B, it is easy to set up a shop/restaurant but not easy to ensure that it survived and prospered. Today's contribution features one eatery spot that stood the test of time and another that is NKOTB.
1) Choi Kee Bah Kut Teh
Stood the test of time. Quite tasty bah kut teh my only complain is that they should use more of the bah kut teh herbs in making the soup base but of course this is a matter of taste preference. Very tasty, as usual passed my sis' taste test hence it's posted up here. Nice balance between aromatic herb and taste, saltiness and heartiness. Also serves variety of stir-fry vege. Has its large loyal fan base. Another thing - they use good quality soya sauce for their dip, adds to the taste of the bah kut teh meat. I would say that it is much better than its nearby competitor under the bridge.
Also served prawn mee but didn't order as we had stuffed ourselves full of BKT
1. Ambiance : 2/5 (since it is a food stall)
2. Food (taste) : 4/5
3. Price : 4/5 Reasonable
4. Cleanliness : 4/5 surrounding area is clean, the stall and its worktables all neat and tidy, clean - yes, i'm that picky)
5. Parking : available
2). Tai Sai Dou - Malaccan Traditional Sai Dou Fishball
This is the New Kid On the Block. Its location was formerly another restaurant - vietnamese if i'm not mistaken. Unfortunately, the business is so competitive that only the good thrives. Let's see how long this will survive. I hesitate to post here in case it closes down soon after but...let's give it a chance shall we?
Serves fishball and related dishes - fishball noodle/keow teoy/meehoon (soup/dry sauce), yong tau fu and other combination. I ordered plain fishball meehoon and several pieces of yong tau fu. Quite tasty and the texture is good - indicate that it is made by hand. Pictures and cuttings hung on the wall suggested their fishball paste is made by hand. Malacan traditional Sai Dou fishball.
1. Ambiance : 3/5 - okay, interesting shop but quite "plain". maybe better this way, they concentrate on their food and not decor
2. Food (taste) : 3.5/5 - actually not bad but my only complaint it is way too salty! not only the soup but also the fishball. (perhaps it is too salty to my taste but not for the general public). Yong Tau Fu is freshly made.
3. Price : 3.5/5 Not exactly pricey but not exactly economical
4. Cleanliness : 4/5
5. Parking : available - legal as well as double-parking (seems to be the norm here)
3) Durian Stall - yes, surprised? well, was passing by Sg BUloh and saw all these people grouped around this two durian stalls. Thought i'll share the coordinates here. Bargain pieces are 2 @ RM10 - taste is good but beware of durians that are eitehr opened up or with strings tied tightly around it. Avoid this at all costs! The other stall offer 3 @ RM10 but we gave it a miss cos they don't have that many customers milling around.
sorry, no pics to share here
