I suppose it comes down to laying claim to the IP and licensing how it can be used under freeware.
Eastgear is not modifying but adding SLA map on top of MFM, which is allowed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

c) Make a donation of at least RM3,000 to a legal charity organization in the name of malfreemaps.com and show us the receipt as proof - this condition is put on hold until the confirmation of our legal framework
d) MFM data is not to be re-sold or sub-licensed
e) Our map data can be obtained by opening our maps with Mapedit. Due to our workload, we do not provide our source data and support :D

understand eastgear is doing a one off unlock code distribution to MFM members.

- which version of MFM map eastgear lay over with SLA postal code info ?

- this is a one off unlock code given by eastgear, so there won't be any map update for SLA/MFM map until further notice ?

At the moment, the SLA-Garmin map is combined with MFM v1.62 into a single IMG file. Antyong mentioned that they will be separated in the future, then, we should be able to replace the MFM map with the latest version. The question is: Will the unlock codes given to us now be able to unlock the future SLA-Garmin standalone IMG file or do we need to request for new unlock codes?

I hope Eastgear can enlighten us as soon as possible because MFM v1.63 is already out...

I'm not really answering your question, but according to Eastgear, you can install both SLA/MFM map and MFM map in the same device. However in device, you need to disable MFM mapset of SLA/MFM map and enable the later version of MFM map. Hence, the result is SLA/MFM map without MFM mapset and MFM's later version map.

I don’t think it will work. Remember the issue of the same map ID between MFM and MSM maps. Unless our Bro antyong changes the MFM map ID in the future release.

Bro 76gpsguy, your assumption is correct, and the worst part is even if using SLA/MFM map alone in device (without any standalone MFM map), there seems to be an address search issue within Malaysian addresses.

Can you give an example?

Sorry, my bad, I forgot that previously I had MSM and MFM (changed MID) working in device. When I removed MFM (changed MID) and replace with SLA/MFM, of course the conflict with MSM map will recur. So just ignore my previous post. :prayer:

And after I tried the second time around, I conclude that the method to use both SLA/MFM and MFM later version works without a hitch.

I placed SLA/MFM v1.62 (GMAPSUPP.IMG) in Nuvi and MFM v1.63 (GMAPSUPP.IMG) in SD card. When I go to Map Info, MFM v1.62 is already replaced with MFM v1.63. No need to disable v1.62 manually.

SLA/MFM v1.62 use as standalone

SLA/MFM v1.62 + MFM v1.63

Note: MFM v1.63 was transfered via Mapsource, so no Road POIs included.
