zamad wrote:I'm quite happy with the G60 actually. The only gripe I have is that only standard POIs are visible during navigation. That makes it difficult to know whether a POI has already been captured or not. When viewing the map, all POIs are visible. I think I can live with that. No... I have to live with that until a solution is found. Satellite acquisition is fast too. The 3.2M camera is geo-tagged enabled too. Besides storing the location, it has a datestamp too.

On the PIM, selecting 'Contacts' gives you an option to Call, send an SMS or Go To that address. So your POIs can actually be in your Favorite list or in your Contacts. Sending your location via sms lets the reciepient auto open their GMXT-enabled phone and see where you are, and vice-versa. Turning it to landscape orientation for writing SMS's gives you full QWERTY keyboard instead of the portrait ABCDE layout.

About the phone, the only thing I miss about the phone is not being able to send vcards. I don't care much about the about the absence of MMS or Video. Why mms when e-mail is available! I also like the auto hands-free/speaker mode when answering calls.... no need to plug my ear with BT receiver!

So, if you ask whether I'd do it again... yes, I would! My BH is hinting that she'd love to get one too...

Thank you so much for the info, will get one soon..... =P~ =P~

The nuvifone G60 firmware and modem update is now available.

[20091014]nuvifone G60 firmware and modem update
    Updating Version as below:
    Firmware Version: 2.38
    Modem Version: 2.23.2-8-7 EU
    Improvements:
    1. Keep the weather forecast in memory until they expire, even though it has no data connection.
    2. Display the warning message during booting up in order to short restart time.
    3. Save more information, including address and phone number, from Rich POI to "My Favorite" .
    4. Add a shortcut of Picture Viewer to the scrolling bar of G60 main menu.
    5. There should be a warning message (only once) when users accesses APs that will need data connection.

    Procedures:
    1. Download updating program Garmin-Asus G60-2.38.exe and Updating Guide
    2. Refer to updating guide to finish update process.
    Attentions:
    1. This version must be used with synchronization software Nuvifone Sync Agent 2.0.0

I managed to update the G60 firmware to the 2.38 last night. It was definitely more scarrier than the last time I flashed the 205W firmware to do 1-s tracklogging on the SD (Neadrenalin/JasonLee). This time is was really plug-and-pray [-o< ... The first (and static) screen display with the message "flashing to dev/tt---" took a whole 3 minutes. I didn't know whether it hung or not! All in all, after 3 auto reboots and 11 minutes later, my G60 is finally running v2.38.

Note:
1. Do backup your files, and copy all your settings for setting up of e-mails, etc. The Sync Agent together with MS Outlook only help to restore your Contacts. You'll also lose messages on your SMS and e-mails. (Why? The Sync Agent stinks!!! Even my dinosaur Palm has better syncing features and options)
2. The update installer is saved on your SD card, and won't be activated until you restart the G60. This little piece of info was not written in the Guide. Quote from the Updating Guide:
3. After finishing the above procedures, you could remove G60 from PC safely, then keep G60 being charged with adapter.
Now G60 will restart to check firmware version, it will update firmware automatically.
The G60 will not do an auto restart. You actually need to switch it off, then switch it back on again!! This info was also not mentioned in the earlier (v2.26) release.

3. Save more information, including address and phone number, from Rich POI to "My Favorite"
I still can't figure out what this does...

zamad,
You are much more better than the origin Garmin-Asus tech support team, they should set up a department for you to handle the customer.

Ha ha ha... thanks for the accolade. When I posted an earlier update notice, I had hoped that someone to take it up, ie someone actually updated the G60 firmware. But no... no one did. So when the next update was out, and having gotten no reply from garmin-asus Taiwan about the stability of the updates, I decided to take the plunge. Halfway through the flashing process, I actually had doubts. Did I brick my month old G60? Thankfully, I didnt!

Well today my G60 played a cruel trick on me. Everytime I made a call, it auto reset. Receiving calls or sms were ok, so were sending out text. So I asked myself "what changes did I make between Sunday evening and this morning?" NONE! except for todays mfm 091019 map installation. Neither direct installation to the PND nor the manual transfer from MapSource worked... it just warm resets the nuvifone. So, I've rolled back to the mfm-garmin 091012 version and everything is back to normal.

You know I was very optimistic about the product as the Garmin brand behind it. Personally I am a relatively new user of Garmin products and I am impressed. Given the relatively new-to-market Nuvifone products, I'd expect the GarminAsus technical/sales team to be strongly behind it.

However, I'm shocked that it didn't turn out that way. Technical support was bad and got bounced from one party to another by GarminAsus itself. Even the supposed product specialist in Malaysia (Asus) gave an unhelpful answer which was proven wrong when I was able to load maps into M20.

I wish that there's something that we can do so that Garmin could take action and arrest the situation quickly.

When I totally removed the gmapsupp.img (ie 091019 map), the phone worked! :ko: When I put it back in (1) via installer to PND, (2) Send to Device via Mapsource, and (3) bro johnTan's rar... the phone outgoing call feature won't work. Strange, isn't it?

Could it be the virus that many have reported on 091019 map ?

Bro OngCC's computer could be infected, I remember it happened before

Just my wild guess. ...
