Converting Nuvi 2x5W Firmware to MAL/SIN Firmware

i have a nuvi 255w chn. after flashed, it became nuvi 2w. any chance to modify it to show nuwi255w ms/sg instead of nuvi2w? please advise. thanks.

btw i saw nuvi 255w twn unit flashed and show nuvi255w my/sg.

Are you sure you are using British & Australian voices on your Sg/My unit? Please verify.

From what we know and from what I experienced, British English TTS voice is not compatible with SG/MY firmware and will brick the unit.

Actually I have Karen_Australia voice on my converted set. I used the voice files provided by PeterK in his post.

OH !~ NO ! how come you flash your Nuvi 255w to Nuvi 2W method
Actually you're not necessary to use what US v2.80 RGN.
Now already too late, your nuvi will be permanently became Nuvi 2W series.
No way to revert it back to Nuvi 255W
Flashing to Nuvi 2W series only apply for Nuvi 205W.

Hmmm... I think I have British and Australian voices. Let me confirm this. I think I compiled my own list from various versions of SG/MY firmwares and take the latest version of each voice and text files. So far so good, no issue encountered.

I am very sure... Here are the screenshots of the voice on my converted 255W, as well as the voice files from SG/MY firmware v2.80.

Earthkeeper's download link already includes all the latest TTS voices. The files that come with the
new SG/MY 2.80 seem to be the same as the ones Earthkeeper provides.

Bro, looks like there is a new SG/MY firmware 2.80.

I converted my US set following the tutorial that u provided. Plse advise how to upgrade to 2.80. Do u use webupdater or are there other ways. Thanks to advise

I don't know why the update insists that we delete the TTS voice files before the update.
Any way, this is what I did:

1. rename the voice folder to something else, eg. _voice_
2. Use winrar to extract GUPDATE.GCD to the garmin folder of the unit
3. reboot and the unit will update itself to 2.80
4. rename the _voice_ folder back to voice.

That's all.

255W that using v2.70 and above firmware cant playback instantly the 1sec-tracklog.
But if still want to see the playback, you guys need to connect 255W to computer do this steps:

playback 1 sec,
just goto Nuvi drive X:\garmin\Logs\2009xxxx_xxxxxx\
Copy 2 file Nav.bin & traffic.bin
then paste it into Nuvi drive X:\Debug\2009xxxx_xxxxxx\

xxxx_xxxxxx is Date & Time
must copy the correct folder.
E.g:
\Garmin\Logs\20090822_081212\nav.bin
\Garmin\Logs\20090822_081212\Traffic.bin

copy the above 2 bin files, then goto
\Debug\20090822_081212\
Paste the 2 bin files into this folder.
finally,
\Debug\20090822_081212\ this folder should have 3 files
gps.bin; nav.bin and Traffic.bin

Don't use Cut and paste.
you must make sure both side have the files
let say \garmin\log\2009xxxx_xxxxxx\
only have nav.bin and traffic.bin, you need to copy gps.bin from debug there.

debug side and logs side
both folder must have complete 3 bin files.

eg. \garmin\log\20090822_081212\gps.bin nav.bin traffic.bin
and also must must \debug\20090822_081212\gps.bin nav.bin traffic.bin

Not every SG/MY firmware has all the voices. You need to check multiple versions of the firmware. The rest are from earthkeeper's package that's extracted from original 255W set.
