Anyone has flashed their US set (S4 board) to local firmware 2.7 and successfully upgrade to 2.8?

Hello to all the sifus out there.
I'm a noob who just got hold of a new nuvi 255w. Then my hands got itchy, wanted to try out JCV and LA, so I followed the instructions on http://nuvi255wfirmware.blogspot.com/. Something I regretted badly.

Here's the screen shot right b4 I clicked on ok.
Image

Then, 10% in the porgress bar, disaster struck Image. No choice, I unplugged the USB cable and now the screen went blank, dead white. No matter how hard I reboot it. It got no response when I plugged it into USB as well.

I tried it with webUpdater but wasn't able to find my unit. Being desperate (what else could i lose now?) I tried out the 2.8 firmware (http://www.sendspace.com/file/ndovqf)by dvpro, alas, was able to see the "SOFTWARE LOADING" text along with garmin logo, but when the update was completed. The screen went blank again! Once I unplugged the USB cable, I could hear some sound like when I've just turned on the unit.

At least for now, I can see the contents of my 255w. The screen is still blank white as I'm typing now though...

Any expert can help me out?? :prayer:

I would like to add that I do not have an sd card in my unit. everything including map is in the internal memory

you should not to take risk to flash your nuvi 255W, or really u need take risk, u should refer to this thread previous all the post, people has already encountered this type of White screen problem. My opinion that junction view is not worth to have. Junction view will be get you dangerous, because you look on it but not the road at front.
Try download below firmware, good luck. [-o<
White Screen solution

I guess your nuvi now HWID is 930, so should rename the 082701000270.rgn to any.RGN, then drag any.RGN onto the updater.exe.
then perform the step which assume you oredi know.

Hi sifus,

I want to flash my US 255W unit to local firmware but I have a doubt.
According to the information found in this topic, I pressed the battery for 8 seconds and the top line read like this.

"SW Ver 6.10 nuvi 255W TP P1 V6 2GB"

How do I know this board is S2 or S3 or S4?
Can I use the method for S2 and S3 to flash my nuvi 255W? I guess mine is a 1 year old machine and maybe older than S2 or S3.

Thanks

Hi James,

I would like to thank you for your solution. Really appreciate it.

With that, i've able to see that my firmware is now v2.7. I've not tested the device after fixing it, just wondering. does it mean that it is able to support junction now?

Thanks.

Yes, of course. check tools -- setting -- system-- about
ur nuvi now with firmware SgMy v2.70,
support lane assist/junction view, but only when you use garmin NT map.

oh..that's weird, cos I got an error msg after installing the maps from garmin saying can't unlock maps, so I :
1. get my unlock code from garmin by entering my unit id
2. placed the code into gmapprom.unl

but that didn't help.

so my last question ( i hope i won't keep on bugging you, if not have to belanja already :P)
say i'm using 2 maps (mfm and NT) would that cause any issue to JCV?

:prayer:

Hi Bro,
After you double click on SgMyMal_2009.xx.exe the file will run automatically and then will ask you to enter the map key.
Please connect your GPS to USB port. Once the unlock key entered it will automatically search for your GPS device and install map. Diff between Malsing map the file name is gmapprom1.img and MFM is gmapsupp.img.
You also have option to choose between Malsing or MFM map individually by copying gmapsupp.img into SD/garmin folder.

Touch on ETA (estimated time arrival) and from the you can check or uncheck map selection.

Hope this help :) :) :)
