Hi All Si fu,
I just use GPS for about 2 week plus...
Just to check with you guys, is that anyway to change the routing or how does garmin GPS calculate the routing?
i have this question is because if i want to go from PJ to Perak state, it wont lead me to start from the toll and choose the highway road, and it is always go to those "kampung" road.
Example: From PJ damansara, it will always lead me to kuala selangor area, then from kuala selangor to Perak.
Can any si fu advice me?

Re: Garmin Nuvi 255W Routing ?
correct me if i am wrong
1. can choose faster time(maybe longer distance) or shorter distance(more traffic junctions) to let GPS map the route of you.
2. else can use Mapsource to plan your own route and upload to device?

Generally, for "better" route calculation:
1. Set Route Preference setting to Faster Time.
2. Set Avoidance setting to exclude all except Unpaved Roads.
Also make sure you're using latest map data and only enable that mapset at Map Info.
I take everything in moderation, including moderation.

Plan Objective
Point A to Point B
Plan Procedure:
0. Start
1. Read the manual to understand equipment. Yes or No?
If Yes go to Step 2, If No, go back to Step 1.
2. Check setup on avoidances, Yes or No or Not sure?
If Yes, go to Step 3, if No, go back to Step 2, If Not sure, go back to Step 1.
3. Check routing is speed setting. Yes or No or Not sure?
If Yes, go to Step 4, if No, go back to Step 3, If Not sure, go back to Step 1.
4. Set Start point (either manually or via GPS signal). Yes or No?
If Yes go to Step 5, If No, go back to Step 1.
5. Set Destination. Yes or No?
If Yes go to Step 6, If No, go back to Step 1.
6. Start rounting.
7, Check routing. Happy or not happy?
If Happy, go to Step 8, Not happy, go to Step 8 as well.
8. Start Car, drive off and Bon Voyage....
9. Not happy with routing, press Detour to recalculate a new route or a via point.
10 STOP.
Of course, there are subroutines as well, e.g. 7.1.1 but for the time being, this is the general procedure to get going, for deeper understanding, read forum threads, do research, gain more understanding.....and of course, don't forget to enjoy using the Nuvi to get you from place to place.
If all this does not work....throw the Nuvi and the manual into the dustbin. Or donate to others.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 255W Routing ?
Hi All,
Thanks all bro for the advice!!!
and I had loaded the MFM map into it! It work wonder after i disable the original map in my garmin!
and then I loaded the Custom POI into it too.
My question is does this Custom POI on the Speed Trap alert me if i pass by the location? Or do i need to activate any command in order to let the Speed Trap POI Alert me ?
From,
danny

Speed Alert will only function when you exceed the speed limit of the road. Nothing will happen if you are within the max speed limit of road.

erm if thats the case and there's mobile speed camera, we would have been snapped?
i thought it works when we are close to the vicinity?
and usually GPS speed is about 5km/h lower than what is shown on speedometer

Hi all si fu,
errr, if we are within in the speed trap zone and my Car speed limit is exceeded, does the GPS will announce " Enforce Speed Zone, xx speed limit reach blah blah blah " things ?
hmm, and another thing is that, if im not in the SPeed ZONE, but my car speed limit is OVER 150km, does the GPS will inform you that your car speed limit is exceeded? hmmm...
i doesnt have chance to try it yet for the speed track!

First question to you is why you worry when you travel within the speed limit ? I already answered your question in that the alert will only sound if you travel at or above the max speed limit. Try it on a straight road, you will see what I mean. To make a tool work, you have to understand how it works in order to benefit from it.
Next Question is how you know your car speedometer is accurate such that you conclude that your GPS displays 5km/h lower ? A car speedometer speed display accuracy is subjected to tolerances that degrade due to wear on tires as it occurs, tire diameter variations due to temperature, pressure, vehicle load and nominal tire sizes. In reality, your speedometer isn't actually measuring your speed; it is measuring the rotation rate of your wheels. Anything that affects wheel diameter is going to change the relationship between wheel rotation rate and car speed.
A GPS devices is an independent device not subject to the same sources of error as the vehicle's speedometer. The accuracy of its calculated speed, is based on phase differences between the signals from various satellites, which are much easier to measure accurately, even over short distances.

Speed Alert is a custom POI that will sound alarm when a pre-program speed is met or exceeded.
If the speed alert custom POI is not in a new/current speed zone, then no alert will be sounded.
We rely on feedback from members to update or keep updated our speed alert POI file.
