because in your serial connector battery - you got 48Voltage (24x2 Voltage).
but if the "connection between" losses at the battery, then you got overcharge..!!
your single battery charging at 48 voltage !! thats why your 12V battery can explode..!

check your regulator and connection between..
better you put the limitter regulator if possibility to prevent overcharge..

Nothing wrong with them
My car starter need 24v to make it start , after tat everything in car will be using one battery voltage to operate

I agree with Unc, there are many Toyota Land cruisers running around in Malaysia using 24V starting. All with 2 batteries - 12V each connected in series, I don't think there has been many explosions of this nature... has to be the particular battery.... best is for Unc to send it to GP battery manufacturer for an explanation... forget the dealers, they will give all silly excuses and half not knowing what they say, but GP manufacturer has now a reputation to protect - will be good to hear their side of the story.. even if it is out of warranty!

I gather Unc has replaced now his car with new batteries and they are not exploding so it is not likely the charging system etc is not working properly.....

Landcruiser with 2 battery
Starter need 24v to make it start , after tat everything in car will be using one battery voltage to operate .
There is a big relay will cut off current flow from another battery
IF the relay was not working , car radio player , lamp & everyting will burst
so i dun think the relay got any problem

If only the Starter uses 24Vdc the 2nd battery +ve terminal will be connected to the starter and the its -ve terminal connected to the 1st battery +ve terminal via a relay. Than the Starter return will goto Chassis Gnd. ( my best guess). In this case if the 2nd battery is shorted it will become a load to the 1st battery. As a load it will heats up depending on how bad is the shorts. Than it make sense that it will blow up.... ](*,)
Common Sense Is Not Common.

Unc Wong

Yesterday, my friend's car battery did the same explosion ritual .. if you look at the design of the carrying handle it is the same as yours although in different brand name......

It does looks suspicious this is happening... anybody out there has a normal lead-acid battery blowing up?? Would be interesting to make a comparison.......

I have used these more expensive maintenance-free batteries before, but I found them to have a shorter life although I need no longer go and check the battery water level as frequently as the lead-acid type. I am back to the lead-acid type now......
