Nuvi 800 Series

Hi,
I asked friend to buyt back a Nuvi855 from USA. At USA..when doing the Address search(Clicking on the Address icon),he was able to type in thing..however after he hand over the unit to me and now at Singapore, I cant use the Address search function ..the error is "No map data available"

After I put in MalFreemap (ver MFM-Garmin-100208) into the SD-Card. Once GPS detected. I can use the POI search..with the Qwerty keyboard display to type info.. However. Address Search is still not available.

Is this a normal behavior ? Whenever i do address search..it will start displaying the "NearBy" icon..then after a while the"No map data available" will be display.
Clicking on the "Near" icon- it has option of "where am I ", "other city". After a while..it will display "No Map data available"


Questions
1) Can I put the Malfreemap as 1st map..by way of renaming it to "gmapprom.img" and rename the USA map to "gmapsupp.img ?

Is there otherway to make the keyboard work.

At first..i thought it is FW bug..and I did a FW upgrade from ship with 4.6 to 4.7 .

Based on discussions at this topic: Nuvi 860 (an 8xx series), it seems that this is an issue affecting Nuvi 8xx series.

I faced the same problem..I manage to enable the Address Search with ALL MFM MAP with my newly acquired Nuvi 855

Procedure
1) Copy gmapsupp.img (Compiled in V174, Que only only) into Main Memory
2) Copy gmapsupp.img(Compiled with MFM 100208, select default setting) into Micro-SD card.


On the "Map Info", all Maps are available except the default AMerican MAP is not selected.

thanks i have updated the Nuvi860 thread...a work around is there..will explore further to generate more details map on latest version..

=> When i disable the 100208 maps from map info..immediately no result found.

When all are enabled on Map info.
Searching of 609930(type this number into the "street" field..I manage to find my company building..

Also on the search address function ,there are

Spell City-Click this display..
a)Postal Code/Address, Singapore => I believed this is available on the 100208
select this option manage to find the postal code of 609930.
b) Sg Postal Code, Singapore
=>Select this..can not find newly added postal code of 609930.

c) Singapore,Singapore

Search All
=> Select this, work for all.


tell me some addresses that not available on v1.74 but available on the latest release..i can do the search function trial..

Hi all, I am intending to purchase a nuvi 855 through Amazon. After reading through the entire thread, I am still unsure whether the solution posted by rickoes solves the search issue. Can fellow 800 series users confirm this?

Also, does the 855 support the ability to add multiple maps with customised names in Map folder, instead of the default naming convention (i.e. gmapsupp.img)?

Lastly, do you guys feel that the voice recognition feature is useful? It seems to be the main feature separating the 855 and the 1350 so far.

Yippee, postal code search works wz yr method ... thks alot.
But the v174 not listed on the map info...??
Hv flw yr exact instruction... + many, many fresh attempts.

Also, whenever I use 'Recent Found' icon box, unit goes into auto-reboot. What went wrong??....
