How to get a localized firmware? Isn't with this fireware I will be able to view JCV for sg & my? By installing this fireware means all my EU maps will be gone unless I do a backup right?

Need to be sure cos I don't have any knowledge about technical detail of a GPS.

Thanks in advance.

As you had contacted Garmin and they responded that your set does not have this feature. Believe this is a commercial decision to discriminate sets from different zones in world.

I still have my Nuvi 3790 SG/MY and used it this past April & May 2013 while I was in Singapore. I used only for a day though due to the plastic fatigue breakdown of the holder on the mount.

Fortunately, as always, I travel with two GPS and managed to rely on my TomTom GO 950 Live model, which proved excellent during my vacation stay.

Regarding your wish to have JCV desires, it can only be achieved if you install or better still, just get an SD card (Legal purchase) of SG/MY and you're off to enjoy its performance. From thereon, you have the option if deemed necessary, based on how frequent you return to the region, to purchase the Lifetime Maps as well, perhaps after 2 good years to compliment & support the SD card.

I am soon going to purchase the SD card for Europe too and do likewise as I suggested to you with the Lifetime Maps.... and maybe not... we'll see coz I would by then have own the 3790 for almost 5 years I think and currently, I'm looking at the 7" Nuvi screen 2B honest... to serve both my two cars and when I go real slow.... like 6 - 20 kph on my scooter cruising about the countrysides. :) Btw, I do enjoy for a change occasionally, riding pretty slow like a bicycle's pace... its interesting and allows motion while relaxing with crawling speed!!!

A much larger screen at 7" would be a blast to glimpse at and pretty cool on a scooter too...hehehhh

Hello folks,

I've had my Nuvi 3790 for a while now. I saw on Garmin SG page that the firmware is ver 3.5, while mine is still ver 2.6. I've tried installing the update a few times but the device doesn't seem to update to the new firmware after I installed from my computer. Any idea how to address this issue?

Thanks.

Is yours local version? If not, try webupdate (you can download from US Garmin page).

I have the following info from my 3790

Nuvi 3790V
Software Version: 2.50
GPS Firmware: 2.50
Maps loaded:
Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT2011.10
City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2011.10

I copied the MFM maps in SD card directory /garmin/malfreemaps/

Wonder why this is not showing up and how to use it?

A brief advise should be appreciated

Your GPS firmware is outdated. Do update.

Map on SD card should be copied to \map directory. You can give it any name (no need gmapsupp) but must have .img

For JCV file, you can copy to \garmin\JCV directory. Do not change the file name.
