We can see
1) Junction view. But not visibile on other than SG/MY firmware.
2) Lane assist. I like this feature in mfm more than JCV.
3) Speed limit, which shows only if we exceed the the speed limit.
I'm in total agreement with bro Bahathir. Personally, I feel that (voice guided) Lane Assist would be far more useful than the Junction View, which IMO is more like a gimmick. There's a flip side to Junction View (JV) which I don't know if anyone has ever thought about:
- If the driver is alone, he or she is more likely to spend more time distracted, looking at the JV image and comparing with the outside world. The longer the time the eyes are off the road and instead glued on the GPS screen = the increased likelihood of causing accidents.
- The Junction View function may not be effective at night since the JV image was taken in the daytime. Obviously with the road lights at night, the junction will look somewhat differently than in the photo. The human brain senses the discrepancy between the embedded junction pic and the outside world and will take some time to process that information before concluding they both match.
- In very heavy rain and poor visibility, it is highly unlikely the driver can make out the details of the real world junction.
- If you're driving a wee bit too fast, you really don't have time to compare the upcoming junction with the one as shown in the GPS until you're too near to it.
IMO, the GPS' role is to aid the driver in selecting the proper turns and lanes via audio prompts, while keeping his/her eyes on the road all the time. A lane assist feature would be a lot more useful and safer, just as your passenger would tell you personally,
"Please switch to the right lane now before going up the ramp. I don't want us to miss the exit!".
I always rely on voice navigation to tell me when to make that turn, with a very, very brief glance at my GPS screen for confirmation for the upcoming turns. A voice guided lane assist feature would be safer than having to look at pics of junctions.
Given a choice between JV and Lane Assist, I'll take the latter anytime.
