Mine still shows 1.62 with no trace of 1.63
...

I don't quite understand the above underlined statement. Can you pls elaborate.

Oh....... I transferred the file via Windows Explorer.... just simple copy and paste. I'm just finding it weird that the results I got is different from yours.

I did the same with both GMAPSUPP.IMGs, SLA/MFM v1.62 in Nuvi and MFM v1.63 in data card. Not sure why you had different result (but FYI, my MFM v1.63 was generated via Mapsource, not installer generated).

Ah........ this seems to be where the problem lies. Though I'm not too sure if the wrong name from the installer generated ver affects it to a large extent...

Let's do this one step at a time. First of all, remove SLA/MFM from device/data card, and verify at Map Info, which maps are listed (scroll down if there is more than 1 page). And also, when turning on Nuvi do you still get the msg "Can't unlock maps"?

That is most aggravating for brudder FSP and I can relate how tragic one must feel this moment... esp. on a Sunday! [-o<
I hope you have your unit up and about soon with the files and maps reinstalled.
All the best and it would help to edit your profile disclosing whereabouts of yr location.

Sometimes, there are bros within proximity who are willing to drive up to yr place and physically help & guide you with a complete run-over with installation...

OK, let's first identify which maps reside in Nuvi/data card.

How to identify IMG map file using GMapTool:
  • Download GMapTool: http://anpo.republika.pl/files/wgmaptool043.zip
  • Extract ZIP file, and run "GMapTool.exe".
  • Add IMG map file from Nuvi/data card into GMapTool.
  • After adding IMG map file, mapset name is stated in the list alongside IMG file.
  • If more info is needed, click Info button.
  • Repeat the above until all IMG map files are identified.

Next, we will determine why the codes do not work in Nuvi/data card.

1st, They dont provide any TOOL :-?

Basically you use notepad to save their code to a .unl file(not text file), then place the .unl file together with the .img file

2nd, the original Europe map can be downloaded any time, a latest copy whenever you need. It does not affect your GPS function without it.
