If my nuvi's GarminDevice.xml corrupted, I will do this
1) Mount the garmin_drive.
2) remove garmin_drive:\Garmin\garmindevice.xml
3) eject the garmin_drive
4), Turn off and on, and the nuvi will create a new one.

Yes and actually GarminDevice.xml will be re-generated each time we power up our Nuvi.

... Maybe that's the reason why my 660 has been freezing up on me (requiring "hard" resets which wipe out all personal data ...)??

P.S. (.. off-topic story but somewhat related ...):
One "reliable" SGP Garmin distributor ...(in J.Sultan area) charged me $65/- :$$: to 'hard' reset my 660 - actually asked me to sit a distance away fm him while both of them 'wayang-wayang' pretending to upload/download and professionally diagnose my comatose Nuvi. (At that time, I did not think of hard reset and didn't really know how its done.) After our Garmin engineers miraculously brought Nuvi back fm the dead - TWICE, but they were generous enough not to insist on charging me again, I was seriously warned not to use certain maps (i.e. JW's & MFM's especially.. ) because these have been know to be "often virus-infected" ....!!!
:x

I bought my 1st Nuvi fm them but needless to say after this valuable education in advanced GPSr maintenance that $65 is definately the last of my :$gone: they will ever see .....

Tks for bandwidth ...

My goodness. $65!! Leher penuh darah ni .. :D
No problem with people making money but this is just too much! Just like the local Garmin distributors here charge as much as twice the price in US. Well yes they will provide "lifetime" service/update but we all know where their resources from ..

Well, it's out. This morning's papers advertised PC Show special by NaviCom:
Nuvi 765 at SGD 549 with free friction mount and AC charger.

The advert also states that they rent out Garmin maps on SD card. Another interesting thing - I normally get from Allbright, but I just went to Navicom's site (http://www.navicomtechnology.com), and Allbright is not listed as their dealer.

Eastgear's Holux Pro (the one with Bluetooth) and Papago looks very interesting too.

It's going to be a madhouse at Suntec Convention Centre. Now thinking hard about this....

Navicom and AllBright are direct competitors in this region for Garmin business, naturally they will not list each other link.

It is Garmin website who are their principle that you should look at.

It is the US/EU/standard 765T, not the SG/MY, where, the sg/my there will be no T (TMC).

bought localised 765 mal/sing maps with jcvs at PC Show Suntec only S$549 from Navicom

close to Amazon.com price of US$338 X 1.44 USD -> SGD 487 + 50 via Vpost = $537
comes with home ac charger + car dashboard friction mat. sales staff says maps will be updated every 2-3 mths

EastGear selling Aussie maps version at S$669 parallel import set no local JCV maps & updates

quick summary after test driving

JCV works well, reception works even with Vkool on my car.
maps provided

1) mal/sing/brunie 2009.3B
2) City Navigator mal/sing 4.03
3) City Navigator Mal/sing maps 2009 3D

Hougang -> Tampines Rd -> JCV KPE -> JCV TPE -> JCV Pasir Ris Drive 12
great feature if not familar with slip roads exits etc

unfortunately directed me to wrong address in pasir ris where my place is. guess is a map issue either in Mal/Sing maps or city navigator ?

I find the map lacks definition for smaller roads inside HDB estates and condos.

will malfree maps be better ? possible to add more maps ?
