Freshman - Nuvi 3592LM

Postby TTYY00253 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:19 pm

Dear All, I'm William, Freshman :)

I just bought a Nuvi 3592LM (Malaysia). I'm not good in IT products.....hope you guys could teach me.
I tried out many kind of methods to update my GPS but was not successful.
Today I took my elder brother's old version Garmin GPS (bought 5 yrs ago). His with AES camera voice alert and Visual alert.
Although I upload plenty of map Malsin POI 20140331, POI 20140305, etc.....my gps now became no sound and....plenty problem occured.....

Therefore I decided to Reset Factory Setting....and luckily I was able to do so....but I found out that some users said we need to back up our gmapsupp.img.....sadly.....i didn't.......will this affect anything?

Now what should I do? Any pros. would help me out and guide me. Will appreciate your help.

Another question, why I can't use wifi to update my garmin map? It shows "Error message - We can't find your map, please contact Garmin Customer Service." Why I can't update through wifi.....

Thank you

Hard reset does not remove maps that reside in Main Memory and the SD card of the Nuvi. It only restore default settings to the menu located in Tools section of the Nuvi.

If you are getting the message cannot find maps, you must have done something to the maps that reside in your Nuvi /system directory of the SD card /garmin and/or /map sub folder

Garmin seems to have problems with their server map downloading capabilities. You should contact them and question them on this.

Meanwhile you should switch to manual mode to update map.

Newbies should restrict themselves to update maps in SD card /garmin or /map. Tinkering of maps and data located in main memory should be left best to those who are literate in computer knowledge and some of the mechanics of the Garmin Nuvi. Garmin Nuvi is NOT forgiving to corruption of data which usually results in a "bricked" unit

As this is MfM forum, I shall restrict myself to offering advise that concerns Malfree Maps.

Download our latest map installer from this link : viewtopic.php?p=123970#p123970

Run the installer to generate the map file gmapsupp.img

Copy this map file gmapsupp.img into the SD card/garmin sub folder

Meanwhile do some housekeeping and remove the MsM Malsingmaps maps so as not to confuse you

See if this restores the sound in your Nuvi.

Dear silverbeauty, thank you for your advice, I'll try is out tonight. Will update you tmr. Hopefully my GPS is not a "BRICK" yet.

But is it any way to reset my gps to factory setting? I saw youtube have this reset gps....I believe it's not suitable for Nuvi 3592LM.

Somehow, I think I need an original gmapsupp.img file....Please look at my current map display....not 3592LM display format..... no more speed limit icon....sometimes the road will disappear .....

Thank you

William

You screen looks normal to me. You are using the Garmin City Navigator map (CN NT NAVTEQ). If you are using MFM NT, the land would be coloured green, not grey.

You should only use 1 map, either MFM NT, MSM NT or CN NT. You can set it at Home Screen > Settings > Maps & Vehicle > myMaps. Tick only Apac - DEM, 3D Landmark Singapore & Malaysia, and one other map product, either MFM NT, MSM NT or CN NT.

Dear silverbeauty,

I did according to your instruction.

Download our latest map installer from this link : viewtopic.php?p=123970#p123970
Run the installer to generate the map file gmapsupp.img
Copy this map file gmapsupp.img into the SD card/garmin sub folder
Meanwhile do some housekeeping and remove the MsM Malsingmaps maps so as not to confuse me

However, I'm still facing the same problem. Please refer back to the previous picture I've uploaded.

1) The gps Speed Limit sign disappear.
2) Not able to show the picture/ photo of the juction
3) Not able to show how many meter to reach the junction to turn left or right. (The icon disappear)
4) The purple guide line will disappear (left an arrow)
5) The Simulation Drive is not working properly, the voice will say turn left or right but the car is not moving.
6) The voice/ sound from the speaker is horible (English and Malay mixed) - even I've change different langgue
eg. Turn left to Jalan Batu Tujuh.....Previously (New set) I heard Turn left to Jalan Batu Seven.

Dear sanadi,

First I would like to thank you for posting here. I will try it out tonight. Hopefully, this will help me.

Thank you

* Junction view - not on every road. Mostly on highways and in Klang Valley. I'm near Putrajaya, there lots of junction view here.
* Speed Limit - not every road has speed limit. Only some.
* simulation - you need to have the gps turned off. When you are in simulation mode, you have the 2 blue up and down arrows to speed up or slow the simulation. You can see it in my picture above, on the left hand side of the screen
* The voice - use British English - Daniel

How it pronounces the street name also depends on the map. Make sure you only have 1 map ticked.

If all else fails, reset to factory default.

Home Screen > Settings > Backup & Reset (scroll down) > Factory data reset

Dear Sanadi,

Hmm~ still remain the same. Nothing much change.
I heard there are ways for hard reset.
Anyone, would kindly share with me?
If not, I'm gonna go to Garmim distributor/ retail shop.
I've asked the price. It's RM 50.00 to restore, update
RM 50.00. Total RM100.00.
If virus, or too serious, send to factory to restore.
Hmm~ many charges occurred. Sad

Virus is extremely unlikely.

Browse here: http://www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdate/

You can download the latest maps. I prefer Malfreemaps 2014.10 with latest Singapore MCE (Marina Coastal Expressway) data. Look for the one that says "localised nuvi 2792LM, 3592LM, 3560LM". Beware the file is 700MB in size. Update the map and restart the Nuvi. Long press the power button and shut down the Nuvi. Then start again. If you are not comfortable doing this, then you may need to send to the shop.
