After localizing my set, how do I verify the HWID? I couldn't find the info anywhere.... pls kindly advise.

The HWID is still 827, so you cannot use webupdater to update any of the files. If you update firmware
using webupdater, your unit will change back to US system software, and you'll have problem booting up
because the voice files in the unit are not compatible with US system software. Do not use webupdater
to update the voice files too.

For 205W S4, you'll have to wait just like what chaicka says.[/quote]

Hello, guys,
I have read the first page many times and this additional process,
try all these three way, updater still won't do anything.
The unit I have is 255W, SW 6.00, GPS SW 2.00
UNIT ID 369554xxxx
S4_R3, bought in december 2009, in Toronto, Canada.

Method 1 on 1st floor, hold power switch until updater find the unit: end up power off before updater find it.
Method 2, hold battery buttom for 8 seconds, updater find the unit, but when I click "OK", unit turn to black screen, and updater collect an error message let me to report.
And I found this method 3 as follow, no luck, same as method 2.

At least I didn't turn it brick. ](*,) ](*,)

Switch on nuvi.
-Press & hold battery icon until dignostics mode
-plug miniUSB into nuvi, connect with pc
-download file above unzip
-run updater.exe
-tick usb option
-click OK.
-Click OK
-Wait and Done.
-Enjoy JCV.

Forget about the quickly connect instructions you see earlier in this thread.

Hi biosfix, :welcome: to MFM forum.
you should read through all the post from this thread but not only first page, first page did has some important highlight message, your unit board is S4 board, if you flash the unit's firmware, which could "brick" and be an expensive paper weight. fortunately, you didn't turn it brick :D

IMPORTANT:
- This is for 2x5w units only
- This guide is for mainboard version S2 & S3 only.
This does not work with mainboard version S4, you'll end up with a white screen
and brick your unit! (To check your board version, press the battery icon at the
upper right of the unit for about 8 seconds, you'll be in the diagnostic mode. The
board version is next to the unit model at the top of the screen)
- make sure battery is at least 75% charged
- Backup all your files before flashing
- Please use a quality USB cable
- Do it at your own risk

Thank you. The first page did say how to deal with S4 board, so I think I did the two steps under S4 section.
If their is a big issue, the OP must have revised it. :ko:

Hi all experts, I have flashed my 255W s2 to the local version, now sg/my v2.8. JCV works perfect with garmin Sg/MY/Br NT maps but i realised there is no lane assist; there's just the JCV and highway mode(which is awesome). my questions are

1. Why is there no lane assist with garmin Sg NT maps?

2. I tried with Australia NT map, there's lane assist but JCV doesnt show up. What's wrong?

3. I have come across somewhere that JCV is only accidentally added in for sg/my v2.3 and has been removed for v2.4/2.5 and thereafter and will not be replaced even after you downgraded your version back to v2.3. Anyone can verify this?

thanks in advance.

to get lane assist if u are using it in SG or MY, u have to choose malaysia or singapore under country when u first power up the unit. From what i know, u have to do a user data reset so that they will prompt you to select your country again.

To do data reset, rest finger onto bottom right of screen then slide power on, with ur finger still on bottom right of screen. Dont need to hold on the power slider.

Hi Bros,

So how can I check what HWID my garmin 255w is having? from diagnostic page I can only see that it is a S4 board but no HWID info. Is is possible to flash it to local firmware?
