Need some help on Nuvi 1310

Postby mystvearn » Sun May 02, 2010 3:13 am

Hi,

I successfully uploaded malfreemaps, but for some reason I must have uploaded it twice or something. I see that there are 2 malfreemaps and one europe map. How do I remove one of the malfree maps?

Is there a way to format this nuvi so that it only shows one malfreemaps and one europe map? (I am thinking format clean install like windows 7). I may have deleted the 2010 europe base maps, and I am now left with europe 2008 maps... I tried factory reset, but does not seem to work. The only way left I think is buying garmin maps which cost £50 for one time or £100 for unlimited life. I have seen some "free" ones online..
As a result, when I turn on the garmin, it says (c) 2008, 2009 Navteq or something like that with (c) this map is not for selling.
I preseume the second one is mfm maps, but the first one should be garmin maps. When I check the map info, it says CN Europe NT 2010.10. This seems slightly weird to me.
Will direct copying of another 1310 files onto this one solve the problem?

Is there a way to install every map on the device? There is a lot of free space, and I thought I would just upload everything on it.
How do you differentiate between those gampsupp.img? How to upload other maps if all are called gmapsupp.img

As this is a widescreen version, I notice that it says it supports multiple junction view, but all I get in simulation are the junctions seperating when you come to a busy interchange. Is there a way to install those cool lane assist junction view for malfreemaps and europe maps? Another thing, I don't really see where the lane assist comes up. The maps are showing directions as normal. Anyone has a link to a video showing lane assist vs no lane assist, and lane assist, vs lane assist with junction view? I tried google but did not come up with anything good.

So far I am satisfied. The bluetooth actually works very well. Provided that you are not in the same room when calling your garmin or you will get this screeching echo like those people calling radio stations with their raidos on.

For Nuvi 1xxx series, you are not limited to gmapsupp.img. You can create a "Map" folder in either device memory or micro-SD card and put all your maps in it e.g. mfm.img, indonesia.img, australia.img.

Lane Assist / Junction View are device and map dependent. MFM map does not support these features. At least not yet.

I don't get this abit.

There are two folders which I think do the same thing. They are:
Garmin
Map

I managed to install mfm maps. But mfm generated maps are 86.1mb. There are 2 mfm maps on my nuvi, and one european map. The maps are arranged like the following:

Garmin/gmapsupp (83.3mb)
Garmin/UK/gmapsupp (181mb) ....(this one backup I made before following tutorial to install mfm map)
Map/gmapsupp (83.3mb)

I followed the instructions directly, and I may have duplicated the same mfm map. I think the 83.3mb file map are the mfm maps. I uploaded the mfm maps using the mapsource software.

My questions are:
1. are Garmin and Map folders=the same thing?
2. I know the mfm map is 86.1 mb, but I all I found was the 83.3 mb files when using the mapsource and selecting up to malaysia only
3. I tried to rename the gmasupp file in Map folder to Malaysiamap but that only cause my nuvi to "hang" at the loading maps page. I am not sure if it can load the maps or if its trying to load maps. I stopped it after seeing nothing hapening for 30secs.
4. Making multiple folders and renaming the folders like australia, singapore, and placing all gmappsupp should work right?
5. Which mfm map duplicate should I remove? In the map or garmin folder?
6. If the mfm maps are 86.1mb, then if I copy paste it directly into the Garmin/Map folder, then it should work right? Why do I need to upload it using mapsource? As far as I can tell, mapsource is only use to deselect unwanted regions. Correct me if I am wrong.

So Lane assist & Junction view depends on maps and not a hardware limitation then? As I see it, since this is a widescreen version, I should see the lane assist right? Or is it just verbal directions? Does anyone know a link that shows Lane Assist vs non-lane assist? I have seen junction view, just some nice picture of the junction, but I could not find any about lane assist vs non-lane assist videos on youtube.

Thanks

Backup all folders / files ( inclusive of hidden files ). Delete the gmapsupp.img in MainMemory /garmin. Powerup the Nuvi and check in MainMemory/Tools/System/MapInfo. How many maps do you see ?

I followed the instructions directly, and I may have duplicated the same mfm map. I think the 83.3mb file map are the mfm maps. I uploaded the mfm maps using the mapsource software.

See my comments above. You have to determine of both gmapsupp.img are duplicates via selective deduction analysis

2. I know the mfm map is 86.1 mb, but I all I found was the 83.3 mb files when using the mapsource and selecting up to malaysia only
How big a file depends on version and number of map tiles selected

3. I tried to rename the gmasupp file in Map folder to Malaysiamap but that only cause my nuvi to "hang" at the loading maps page. I am not sure if it can load the maps or if its trying to load maps. I stopped it after seeing nothing hapening for 30secs.
You have duplicate maps thus the cause of your problems

4. Making multiple folders and renaming the folders like australia, singapore, and placing all gmappsupp should work right?
You can do it but for 1310, no need as it recognizes the maps generic format and not by file name. So any valid file name will do ie.. Australia for Australia map, Singapore for Singapore map, etc...

5. Which mfm map duplicate should I remove? In the map or garmin folder?
See my answer above

6. If the mfm maps are 86.1mb, then if I copy paste it directly into the Garmin/Map folder, then it should work right? Why do I need to upload it using mapsource? As far as I can tell, mapsource is only use to deselect unwanted regions. Correct me if I am wrong.
You can do either. Mapsource is used by people who want to do more than transfer maps to device ie... transfer partial map, routing, POI tranfer etc...

So Lane assist & Junction view depends on maps and not a hardware limitation then? As I see it, since this is a widescreen version, I should see the lane assist right? Junction View is only available in units bought in Malaysia / Singapore that are marketed by local official Garmin distributor. This is selective marketing and a decision by Garmin. See pictures below for examples of Junction View and Lane Assist.
Lane Assist is the lanes/arrows on top left hand corner of screen telling you which lane to travel on
Junction View is the picture that best illustrates actual lane graphically on right hand of screen

Thanks

Removed one of the maps in the garmin folder-the 83.3 mb, powerup-still see 3 maps in the device :-k On another note, renaming the map in the "Map" folder to Malaysia now works :tq:

There are two more files in the garmin folder, but are small files.
"GarminDevice.tmp" and "GarminDevice", no idea what they are.

So, its by Garmin Malaysia. If its not a hardware thing, and the 1310 supports it, so technically mfm could in future have Lane assist right? :rox:

Unfortunately I will still be based in UK for few more years to come, maybe an event in the next 3 years

I just bought another nuvi 1310 online, and contrary what Garmin says, it does have full EU maps unlike the UK & ROI maps said. No idea wwhy. It also says its a Traffic version.

I have some queries though. The first one I bought used is fine, the new one, always ask me to accept all the EULA everytime I turn on the Garmin. How to remove this annoying info. I do not get it on the used version though. I only get saying you should not use it while driving.

Thanks
