Well, if the audience doesn't know how to appreciate the effort that many of us are going thru, I really dunno what else to say.

The truth is that the bandwidth utilization of the weekly map downloads is sky-rocketing (notice why the MFM main site don't host map releases anymore?)...

Perhaps you can contribute a hosting service which offers unrestricted speed and bandwidth volume of >200GB per month, that will really cater to the needs of MFM weekly map releases.

200Gb of bandwidth can serve up a month traffic, every MONDAY, the traffic for my server is upto 38Gb for yesterday, 9Hrs to the 2nd day already 14Gb, I think we need a 1Tb of bandwidth to serve up all the mfm members :frus:

Yes, i think members should appreciate/thank shawchyn & chaicka, for giving "Free Hosting" for MFM maps... =D>

:tq: :good:

OR, you may try to download it here...

Yes.. tanks Bro OngCC for the quick remedy. Works fine on my mapsource now!

To chaika & shawchyn, appreciate all your efforts! :prayer:

ps.. if want to upgrade server/hosting to larger bandwidth how much $$ needed?

Thanks to the free services available, I seldom encounter any problems with downloading of weekly map updates. The speed is very fast as well. However if there are others who encounter problems due to server bandwidth issues, then may I suggest MFM utilise some of its hosting fund to increase capacity in a couple of mirrors. I believe MFM has in excess of RM8K in the hosting fund account which is good for the next 5 years, and actually Antyong had asked for donations to be stopped. Given this situation of "surplus", I'm sure spending part of the RM8K to increase capacity at the mirrors. Just a suggestion for consideration.

Bandwidth is just like water/petrol, Data Centre will charge the flow accordingly. Franky speaking, RM8K I don't think can last for 6mths for mfm traffic.

Currently, our server still can manage it, I am working closely with bro chiacka to come out a better solutions to host the file with kind of "load balancing" works. I think it could be lighten our server a bit.

I am looking someone that had extra server space and bandwidth to join our server farms to serve the download. I do understand that some member here may sugguest to use the RAPIDSHARE, LINKSHARE, or others file share services out there, they are good, reasonable fast, but still I believe most of the members still prefer to have kind of "direct" download from the our servers.

For those who willing to share some of your bandwidth and storage space, please pm me. We can come out some solutions to it. :peace:

Perhaps provide an official torrent (with checksum) beside the full download, for members to BT among ourselves, could be one of the possible solution to ease the bandwidth.

Here got comprehensive info about torrent:

File Hosting sites like RapidShare, etc are almost impossible to get a free download. It will become more frustrating. Sorry, I did not know it is so expensive to increase bandwidth.

One way to reduce traffic is obviously with lesser release.

2 weeks or even 1 month period for 1 release.

There's not much you can do to get around the network traffic.

And it gets worse as the file size inevitabley becomes bigger and bigger.

Rapidshare is almost impossible to download for "FREE" in Singapore because ISP here use transparent proxy.

To Rapidshare, every download request is like coming from a single IP with hundreds of request.
So they make you wait like 5 or 10 mins, then tells you, sorry, your IP is already downloading something.
That is extreme frustration.

The only way is to pay for Rapidshare Premium service.

Now, why would we want to pay to Rapidshare ?

Last week I uploaded to 14 free hosting sites. You can also upload to mediafire.com and this server does not restrict one download per source IP. This should work.

For this week, you guys can download and test from this link.

It would make sense for the major ISPs to host official mirrors of MFM for their own customers. They have to pay for their upstream bandwidth, but downstream bandwidth costs to their own customers are internal
