Funny problem with my 255W

Postby mikecharlie4x4 » Thu Jun 10, 2010 10:44 am

Good day, I hope someone out there can help me. I have a 255W, which I bought from Taiwan about a year ago. The problem that I am facing now is that it suddenly will turn on by itself and goes to calibration page. Sometimes I can turn it off but sometimes however I slide the power switch, it will not turn off. I have already done a master reset, update the firmware remove all my maps and reinstall them. After reading this forum, I was thinking I will change the battery ????????? Before I do that, I hope somebody can give me clue what is wrong with my 255W. I have already contacted Taiwan support and they recommend me to do what I have down already. Help help help !!!!!!!!!!!!

PS.....I can connect the 255W to my PC using the USB connection. It will turn on and goes to the connection mode as normal.

9w2kdx,

Thanks for your quick response. This could be a possiblity. I will try and wait for more suggestion before I open up the 255W and at the same time change the battery.

Other than the switch, your touch screen could be compressed or punctured with sharp object. Look for any of such incident at the lower right corner as it is the place to press when entering the Cal mode. If you find poke mark use the strongest sticky tape you can find and tape over it and try to pull it out.... Hope this helps.

Moey,

Thanks for your guidance. I have look carefully at the spot you mentioned but there is no such compression or cracks on the entire touchscreen.
I am now charging the unit through the USB, after it is full, I will turn it off (I hope it will keep off) and see how long the battery will last. If it will discharge by itself without the power turn on than it is most probably the battery. (I hope)
