Mapedit - the unregistered version - can it be used during the seminar? I only have that (besides my legit copy of MapSource) and it's used primarily to export GPX files produced by QStarz GPS datalogger to a MapSource-readable GPX format.

You still can use the unregisted mapedit to learn, but you won't be able to draw the polygon and use the google to draw some road maps.
