Dear all,
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/map_ ... sage/12149
Anyone can give an insight on how this might affect MFM's Garmin map development? Will this cause the "incompatibility gap" between MFM's Garmin map and newer Garmin devices become even wider?
Thanks.
cgpsmapper will be discontinued?

Re: cgpsmapper will be discontinued?
From http://www.cgpsmapper.com/download/Readme0100.txt
Further development of cgpsmapper will be discontinued but Stan will continue to do bugfixes. He also promised to give the full routable version for free.
If cgpsmapper no longer work with future Garmin firmware there's an alternative compiler in mkgmap.
Worst case scenario MFM might need to get the very expensive Map Product Creator from Garmin.
Version 100 is expected to be the final and last version of cGPSmapper program,
no further development is expected - only bug fixes.
Support will be provided till end of 2010

Worst case scenario MFM might call it a day.
This also due to 3rd party copyright issue.

Re: cgpsmapper will be discontinued?
Even if it is discontinue, we still can use the existing version. All current devices are still able to enjoy the map if the firmware remain the same.
Anyway, the version we used to compile for weekly release is still not the latest one.

MapSource Product Creator (MPC) ? Garmin map compiler ? Full feature supported ?
But, Garmin said only open for local distributor, not for 3rd party...
5000USD, not a small amount

USD5000 is not a small amount, but by looking at the members in mfm, i think it is still got the chance to raise this figure.
