new series of Garmin automative device doesn't enter into data comm mode so you can always get a 10 dollars 1 dry-cell battery 5V charger to connect to the device via Mini USB.![]()
Alternatively you can get those cheap solar battery charger (I bought one for RM70, I think) that comes with a variety of connectors including the mini USB connector. Since you are backpacking, you just hang the solar charger onto your backpack (just make sure the panel faces out).
I use mine to charge my SE handphone, my GPS datalogger & HP iPAQ while on the move.
But seriously, if you are doing backpacking, I would suggest a handheld. That extra few hundred RM is worth paying for at the end of the day. Handheld is more rugged and have longer battery lifespan.
