Garmin Nuvi 1250

Hello everyone,

Did you guys test how long the battery can last after fully charged?? Wish to get a Nuvi 1250 for backpacker style travelling (No money for handheld ）。

new series of Garmin automative device doesn't enter into data comm mode so you can always get a 10 dollars 1 dry-cell battery 5V charger to connect to the device via Mini USB.

Alternatively you can get those cheap solar battery charger (I bought one for RM70, I think) that comes with a variety of connectors including the mini USB connector. Since you are backpacking, you just hang the solar charger onto your backpack (just make sure the panel faces out).

I use mine to charge my SE handphone, my GPS datalogger & HP iPAQ while on the move.

But seriously, if you are doing backpacking, I would suggest a handheld. That extra few hundred RM is worth paying for at the end of the day. Handheld is more rugged and have longer battery lifespan.

Where do you plan to backpack? If the map for the area you plan to venture is less than 24MB, I'd recommend the eTrex Venture HC (does not accept data card). This should be about RM200 more than your budget (for 1250). Or if you can find one, get a used eTrex Legend HCx (accepts data card).

Planning to backpack in Taiwan next year. I'm thinking of those portable, but the price is too

Means I can use other device to connect to other battery once the battery in the device out?? how the device looks like?? sound interesting

Of course the handheld is the best choice for backpacking. But too bad I'm only backpack maybe once a year, so most of the time the garmin will stick on my vehicle.
Is this solar battery charger can use? Or got any device I can connect and use those AA battery?

My nuvi 1250 always hang when I press "Go!" after i found an address, it just jam in a page with "Processing Route Info" , why ah??

If your Nuvi is installed with more than 1 mapset of the same region, make sure only 1 of the mapset (may contain several corresponding maps) is enabled at Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info. If the problem persists even after disabling other maps (or if there is only 1 mapset installed), I'd advise you to perfrom a hard reset:

Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of Nuvi screen while turning on Nuvi. Keep finger pressed until pop-up window appears. Touch Yes to clear all user data. Please be aware that this procedure will reset CURRENT.GPX as well, so do back this file before proceeding. And thereafter to restore the data, rename backed up CURRENT.GPX to TEMP.GPX and place it in previous folder (same folder as CURRENT.GPX).

The trick of charging the Nuvi with 3rd party charger, in the case of the 3790 is not to plug it direct to the Nuvi micro USB port. This will result it going to data mode and render the unit unusable. But it does charge the Nuvi. The trick is to use the dock-cradle that comes with it. Mount the Nuvi on it and plug the third party charger onto its mini USB port. It will go to charge mode but Nuvi is still usable ( will not go to data mode )

Nuvi 205 has mini USB port for data and charging.

I just bought the above and want to load the latest map and POI from MFM.
I have tried for days without any success. Need HELP! I bought the unit in Malaysia, PDA Gadgets

My device: -

Garmin Nuvi 1250
Software Version 2.10

Map: Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20 and City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2010.20

I have download the latest MFM free map and generate the map gmapsupp.img, and the installed copy it into my device at

g:/garmin/gmapsupp.img

After completed, I on and off my device and go to Tool > Setting > Map > Info

but I cannot see the MFM map option here.

What did I do wrong?
