Re: nuvi255W map auto zoom out when driving

Bro Yeakyau,

This is one of the idiosyncracies of Garmin. While Garmin makes very good GPSs, it tends to have this idiosyncratic tendency to add some features that some people do not want or to omit some features that some people wanted. Yes, you can say that this is the same of manufacturers but Garmin seemed a bit more pronounced. So, too bad that your 255W does not have a simple button that you can turn the autozoom off. This is the same for most, if not all the Nuvis, including the 3790t.

This is the one feature that puts me off the 3790t or else I would have bought one. But Big Bro thinks that it knows best what level of zoom drivers using Nuvis want, never mind that fact that thousands of drivers are individuals who have different preferences at different times. It is the most frustrating to find that, after turning a corner, the Nuvi will zoom all the way back until you can't see the road you are driving on. :x

the solution is before your journey, zoom (+) map to 50m or 80m, then start your journey, maintain your car speed at below 50km/h.

Searching by postcode

Postby maxxxc » Tue Nov 16, 2010 2:15 pm

Hello,

I have been experiencing some problems searching by postcode. My Nuvi 255W supports the feature and was working fine until I updated the maps. After this it has nor shown the option anymore. Anyone could shed some light?
Moreover, at some point, after a previous update (when the unit was still showing the option for postcode search) it stopped showing the distance from the next intersection (normally located at the top left corner.

Now that works again.
Other than the image file is there anything else I need to update? It turn out I have an "International" unit purchased in Singapore.

Thanks,

Max

Hi, I'm a Garmin 255W user.

When I use my GPS in Singapore, it is fine.

But when I go to Malaysia, then map hangs often when I drive. The speed fluctuates as I move, but the map just hangs at one position. Tried restarting, but same problem. Got lost in Johor when I was leaving Bukit Indah and also Tebrau City.

I'll be going to Melaka soon, and I hope I won't get played out by the GPS again.

Anyone knows what is wrong?

What map are you using ?

Backup and then try deleting old map and download fresh map from our download section.
