Re: Garmin Nuvi3790 SG/MY

Hi, I am thinking of upgrading to the 3790T from my 765. I am wondering if the cradle/power cable etc and my external GPS receiver can be reused on the 3790T as they have already be kinda hard fixed in my car?

How is the performance of the GPS reception?

Any kind soul could advice?

Thanks

Hi "black"cruiser... welcome to the forum.

Unless there is an A/V outlet port on the 3790 (which I doubt), it is not possible to view it on yr 765 and why should you with the capacitive screen and better features the new model is providing? perhaps you could continue using the 765 as a Mp3 source for music & pics in yr car? \:D/

No, not compatible. You got to keep up with the times ... 3790 cradle has built in AMP for amplification as 3790 built in speaker too weak for car audio.

How is the performance of the GPS reception?

Is not worse vs the 765. I still keep my trusty 765.

Any kind soul could advice?

Thanks

Thanks Cruiser for your kind reply. What I meant is to upgrade to 3790T. I believe the windscreen suction cup can be reused on the 3790?

Upon closer inspection on the 3d view on the web, there dun seems to have any option for external GPS antenna. I am wondering if the reception is strong enough as my 765 only have 2-3 bar max without external antenna.

Confirm V2.5 has QWERTY and ABCDE keyboard choice. Could be your update was not done right.

MFM does not have junction view. Only Garmin NT with localized unit has this feature.

Like I said, your problems could be attributed to corrupted update thus your problems above.

Need help guys.

I purchased the Nuvi 3790 from the states in Nov 2010. Loaded the then current MFM map and it worked fine - cannot see POIs though. My problem now is that your latest map (7-2-2011) which I downloaded cannot even be seen in myMaps. Can someone assist me in this as I have tired everything discussed above. I have since revert to the older MFM map (6-10-2010) and it is OK. Thanks in advance.

Bro ganthan, what do you mean by you cannot see.

Is the map available in map info ?

Or you cannot see it in Map view ?

If in map view, the roads are missing, you may have to remove polygons during install.

Bro Silverbeauty,

For Nuvi 3790 under Tool/Settings/myMaps the MFM maps as well as POI cannot be seen...blank. Only my preloaded north American maps are there

Map is not available under map info.

Map view is blank.

The reverse is true for your earlier MFM map. I can see MFM -Garmi 101006 and Mfm Poi 101006 and I can tick/untick to select.

I'm having this problem for the last 2 updates.

Thanks.

Do not hook up your 3790T to your PC / Lappy
Run the MFM installer to generate the gmspsupp.img with polygons removed.
Attach the USB cable from 3790T to your PC / Lappy. Wait for it to go to data mode
Manually copy the gmapsupp.img from the Mapsource Map MFM directory in your PC / Lappy into the 3790T SD card /map directory. Rename the gmapsupp.img to any file name for easy tracking of version eg.. MFM110207
Remove 3790T from USB cable. Start it up.
Check Mapinfo to see if MFM map appears.
