Hi all owners of the nuvi 3970,

How do you get the traffic subscription to work? I have a US version of the 3970 and comes with the FM traffic receiver but when I check the menu for traffic subscription there's none listed. Also unable to find any signal when searching.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The 3790T needs a GTM-35 traffic module that is integrated into the power lead for it to start receiving traffic data. You will need to purchase it.

The Nuvi by itself will cannot receive the traffic news thus the Icon will only appear when you hook up the traffic module.

Link for traffic module at Garmin shop : https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=68325

I do not know whether a US set without localized firmware will function as theoretically this is a paid service.

Hi, I just bought a 3790 today. When I'm holding the GPS device with my palm and touch the button on the screen, a beep sound will produced and I felt the back of the GPS device vibrate slightly. It seems like the vibration of the speaker, I'd like to know if it's normal? Thanks

The "speaker" is located at rear of the unit. Sound energy is "mechanical" by nature thus the "vibration" and the intensity is dependant on the set volume. The higher it is, the more "mechanical" oscillation is felt :-'

If the volume was set to max or near max, I can also feel the vibration of the speaker.

However take note this is a clear tone.

If it was a sound that "screeches" and sounds abnormal from a human spoken voice, then the speaker might have got loosen from its mount or is faulty.

:tq: for that clarification esp. in differentiating the audible level which is most assuring to note coming from the Nuvi's pas record on utterly poor resonance. I am currently pleased by the higher volume produced from the 1490TV that is a vast improvement to the 650 and 775. Only my TomTom 950 rules the volume level thus far, even by a notch higher to the Nuvi 1490.

Lets see how the 3790 fares with the TT950 when I put it to the test once I am in Singapore in June.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Even when I set the volume to 10%, i could feel the vibration when the beep sound produced. I have asked the seller about this issue and he said that it's normal. I'd like to know if other owner experience it or not?

At that low level audio setting, you should feel zero to very little vibration. I have mine set to 30% and do not feel anything.

Go to any shop in your vicinity that sells Garmin and get hold of a demo 3790 to judge yourself.
