Am new and confused. Have a nuvi 1460 and have Malsing maps preloaded, looks like garmin's website uses malsing as well as I update mine there.
Anyways I've installed mapsoucre (latest) and got the latest mfm 110228 and clicked on it and here's the problem:
1. What's the difference between Creating MFM-Garmin map using MFM Garmin Map Generator and Uploading MFM-Garmin using Mapsource? I tried the 2nd option but i can't seem to click on that map tool icon as the icon in my mapsource is not clickable. And so I tried the 1st option as it's simpler but once it's done, nothing happens? How do i put it into my nuvi? I checked the map info in my nuvi and i still only see the malsing maps and not mfm.
2. I checked my nuvi and backup the whole content into my desktop pc. But where is the map? as in the malsing map file in my nuvi? I can't seem to locate it? Btw i don't have a sd card, am just using the internal 1gb memory.
3. If Yes, please select your Nuvi drive {"F:" or "G:"}. Map must save within the "Garmin" folder. For example, "F:\Garmin" <--- this statement is for all nuvi? But my nuvi already has a garmin folder, can I just share my maps in it?

Thanks... :-k

Nuvi 1xxx series map need to be put either in MainMemory/map or SD card/map directory. By default this directory is not present. You have to manually create the directory via Win Explorer.

It is HIGHLY recommended that you store maps in SD card as any corruption is easily resolved by removing the SD card !!

Download the MFM installer. Run the installer. Create the map file gmapsupp.img. Manually copy the map file into the SD card/map directory. Rename the map file gmapsupp.img into any file name you want, for example MFM.img

What's the map directory for my nuvi? I can't find it, and if i have to create manually like the instructions said, a new garmin folder, there's already a garmin folder there. Do i just use it or? But currently I am using that same garmin folder with the generated map in it and i don't see it when i view the info on maps in my nuvi.
SD card? Alright, but I'd have to go purchase one though as I don't have any. At the moment I just want to try out the maps.
Where do I find the default maps? Thing is I can't seem to locate the map folder in my nuvi.

For 1xxx series, the preloaded maps are stored in a "HIDDEN" ROOT file directory /system. By default this is hidden by Windows. Depending on which Win OS you use, you have to go to file properties to get it to "SHOW"

There is a Garmin folder but only accepts a singular file name gmapsupp.img. It will be better if you can accept plural file names and to any name you want when you create a /map directory

You can experiment / try in Main Memory of Nuvi but as a newbie, the changes of corruption, misspelled name etc.. is high and Nuvi is very unforgiving to mistakes, and will refuse to boot up if this happens. You are advised to do on SD where any mistakes is resolved by just removing the SD card. You had been advised so the choice is yours to make.

You have been well advised by Bro Silverbeauty on the "dangers" of toying with the idea of using the memory segment of the device. Do not be a Nuvi statistic. Please use wisdom and purchase an SD Card to enjoy your GPS life. :D

Hi seniors, I've poor computer knowledge, I'm unable to unzip the zip files by using WinZip with error message "WinZip only supports IMG files that are in the ISO format", I wish to have your guidance to overcome this. In the meantime, I'm not sure if the file can be read by my old Nuvi 300 (China version), please advise also. Many thanks!

garmin map extention file is *.IMG , not need unzip. It's garmin map then just put in your GPS (at \Garmin folder).
Actually our file setup of mfm's Garmin's map file is an EXE file. Download it from server then execute it in your PC.
It would be goes to install to your pc at C:\Navi\Maps\MFM-Garmin-XXXXXX folder, (XXXXXXC = yearmonthdate release)
then copying only gmapsupp.img file to your GPS. just do it.

Many thanks senior sobamy for your guidance, I've installed according to the procedure provided but the output files are all in zip files instead of .img files therefore I encountered the unzip problem. I've tried a few rounds of the installation & everything was fine & smooth except giving me the zip files. please advise. Thanks.

I can't recall any ZIP file after installing the map.
I installed just to test, and it work fine with no zip file except all in img file.
