Re: replacement for 205w
since garmin latest unit will not support mfm, should I go for garmin or papago? As I use the map for overseas usage, not sure if papago or other makes support international maps (which is updated)?

I have one of the latest unit ( 3790T ). I can use MFM to navigate to what ever destination I want through address / POI / SLA search. Just manage your expectations and you are fine

IMHO, Garmin is still best for international travel due to availability of maps worldwide.

good reply but when i went to pc expo a few days ago, i told them i want to see poi when navigating and told me 3790 might not be good to install mfm due to software conflict. so, i got the cheaper model 1350. now i regret buying it. since damage has been done, i have to live with it.
now i am tempted to get china map for my nuvi without offset issue. do i need to sent my nuvi to a shop in garmin china to fix the offset (software upgrade)? or i buy the map from garmin which has china map? btw, is the china map from garmin quite comprehensive?

From what I know, only sets from China/Taiwan have necessary firmware to "compensate" for the offset. Previously I had a Taiwan Nuvi 765 and had used it successfully in China without any offset.
I do not think Garmin in China will do such modification to a non-China set as this encompasses changing the entire firmware to the China or Taiwan version. It will be against their company rules.
The only solution is to

The China map ( Chinese version ) is pretty comprehensive ( your set must have capability to display Chinese characters. The English Pin-Yin version is also quite good but the problem is address search is a pain as you have to figure our the pin-yin equivalent for the Chineses Street name

Re: replacement for 205w
since mine stated "made in taiwan", so I guess I am ok (no offset issue). if I want to get updated map (comprehensive), I need to buy from garmin online shop? anywhere I can download for free?

Bro isipadu, take note that made in Taiwan does not equal Taiwan firmware

Most Garmin units made in Taiwan but regionalize depends on what firmware loaded inside !!
