1. Bro Zamad using 'safe way', but require a lot (some) of SD cards, its most safety way to avoid of brick your gps (hang) caused by corruption file.
2. My technique is only using main memory (not need SD card), just compile different country map to one file img.
your gmapsupp.img would become larger size, but you can select/deselect map country from mapinfo menus.

Don't worry, its NO Lagging during its strore in main memory.
No need select map every turning on, nuvi would memorized & save your default setup.

This technique it's more simple & most cheaper  (no need SD cards at all),
just using Gmaptool if you only have some img file collection or using Mapsource if you have complete set of master map.

Gmaptool or Mapsource can compile maps?

Not compile but ability to MERGE maps of different regions / countries or to EXTRACT regions of interest from a particular map

Hi bros,
Got my Nuvi 255W for a couple of months already and am very satisfied with it but I have a problem. How can we use Postal Code (singapore) to search for a location? Any bros can advice? It will be good is you can list out the steps. Tarima Kasik :)

WhereTo - Address - Search all - Skip the enter house number - At the enter street press the 123 & enter your postal code.

Garmin 255W missing some features

Postby jack2jack » Sat Mar 12, 2011 1:47 am

Hi,

If I remember correctly, the GPS will show you how many KM/Meter before you have to turn left or right.
But all of a sudden, my garmin 255W is not showing the KM/Meter anymore.

And, my garmin also doesn't tell me to turn anymore
When I start to route, it does said the road name and drive X km then turn right
After that, it just doesn't tell me anymore on where to turn

What is happening to my unit?

I believe you are select both same SgMy map (MFM and MSM) under map info. you should select only 1 map instead.

When I use my 255W in the car plugging into the cigarette socket, it always reboots from time to time causing me to lose satellite connection.

If I use it without the cable, i.e. rely solely on the internal battery power, no such problem.

What is the cause of this? Firmware or Cable? Can anybody help?

From the symptoms, it points to either the car charger is at fault, the cable or your car supply source.

Are you using original Garmin charger or an equivalent ? If the later, ensure that it has the ability to supply sufficient current. Garmin charger is rated at 1A.
