garmin avoid flyover

Postby kimmchii » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:28 pm

garmin a10 avoid the flyover and take the side lane which has a traffic light, this if not an effective route, waste 3min stuck at the traffic light, if take the flyover it is much much faster and effective.

road selection setting is in the middle of minor and highway.

- in mapsource if i select "prefer highway" at highest scale then it will use the flyover.

Image

- but my garmin 10 there is no option to choose to use "Highway", highway already is unticked in avoidance but still garmin avoid the flyover.

- i tested msm map and it uses the flyover.

-please consider remove the highway status of all the flyovers.

thank you.

I am sure many people have faced the same problem. I was driving in Penang to a place I have never been before. I was stuck in traffic for a long time while the flyover would have been a breeze to drive on. I trusted the GPS 100% but the map routed me through the side road instead of over the flyover.
Possible to do something with the map to over come this? Any one else has any suggestions?

Thank you.

thanks for the input.
yes it is true that select faster time will save me few minutes by using the flyover, but for the entire route time wasted is double.

i always avoid "toll road" when driving from penang to KL (when i am not in a hurry and i also enjoy travelling thru towns can buy fruits along the way and save some money from going to very very very rich cronies' pocket)

this is my general routing preference options:

Image

from penang to kl with Faster Time option checked and avoid toll road :

755KM.
Image

with shorter distance and avoid toll road option:

330KM.
Image

using north-south expressway, 303KM, not much difference from using old roads in term of distance if Shorter Distance option is used:

Image

please remove the highway status on the flyover, or do something to fix this problem.

thank you.

thanks bro for doing the details finding.
I did reported this issue before and i think that the flyover status is set or equal to toll road.

I can't find any issue in my Mapsource.

you need to use Shorter Distance in Calculation Style, not Faster Time.

i have just measured the distance between the flyover and the side lane, they have the same distance.

as i have already explained in the above post, when i travel from penang to KL i like to avoid using the toll road.

without using the toll roads and with Faster Time option, the total distance is 755KM
with Shorter Distance, it is just only 330KM.

but when i use Shorter Distance, i am asked to use the side lane and not the flyover.

I checked on the flyover near smart tunnel from Jalan Imbi toward Kampung Pandan.

Once i checked the 'avoid toll road' option, it will not use the flyover regardless shortest distance or fastest time was set.

thanks for the finding.

i guess the flyover is set as toll road or highway and this setting affect garmin from giving us an effective routing.

the label need to change.
