Activating Hidden 1-second Tracklog Function In Nuvi 2xx

The Nuvi 205 is straight from the box. I changed nothing. I bought it from Singapore 2 weeks ago for a friend and have yet to deliver it.

I am now using MapSource 6.13.7. Previously it was v6.14.1 but can't remember whether I have downloaded the tracks with it.

The patched 200 & 200W also do not offer any control over the detail level of the tracks but I haven't tested it out yet.

I had the opportunity to test out the tracklog capabilities of my patched Nuvi 200 this evening and I am pleased to share my findings.

The track when converted with wnutrak for MapSource looked like this:

When zoomed to 50m, it looks like this:

This looks pretty good to me and I estimate it is about 4 track points for every 50m.

In my next post I shall show you what the Nuvi205 track looks like.

Sorry if it is in the wrong place but you are at liberty to move it to the appropriate location. I thought the Project Room was the right place since I am exchanging ideas how to activate a hidden feature and not discussing the different GPS units.

In comparison, the Nuvi205 track of the same vicinity looks like this:

I also discovered something else interesting. When I touched the Start Playback button a replay of the track in real time took place. Different from the built-in simulation which is based on a preset average speed, the playback showed the actual recorded speed at each location and stops the same length of time I stopped at traffic lights. There is even a fast-forward or rewind of 5-second segments available.

This immediately brings to mind a helpful defence against corrupt cops who claim that you did not stop when you did or that you exceeded the speed limit when you didn't.

Of course I will share with you all as when there are more GPSrs on the road that can record tracks, our mapping efforts will receive a big boost.

I will have to wait till tonight when I have some time to summarise the procedure for your convenience as Sunday is the busiest day of the week for me.
